how long was the engine out the frame? your clutch plates may have just stuck together.

did this job on a mates t5 a few weeks ago, if only piaggio made the hole 0.5mm bigger and used a stainless bolt this common problem would end. anyway to do the job if you could get the exhaust off that would help, back wheel off, scoot on its side mark the casing along the lenth of the exhaust bolt as a guide, centre punch the sheared bolt then start with 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10.1 high speed steel drills (good quality new one;s)with a good electric drill (bosch etc) you'll find the drill sits on the hub shaft and the hole will exit just to the side of the old bolt, junior hacksaw to get the remaining bolt off and jobs a good un. hth

my mk1 p200e heat seized, I had noticed the engine was sounding a bit rattlier than normal, I pulled the clutch in early and was able to ride it home, removed the barrel and piston which had light scoring that I cleaned up and refitted with new rings, it still has a loud rattle so im going to rebore the barrel 1st oversize. what is the recommended piston/bore clearance. cheers

sounds like an air leak, check the condition of the carb & carb bottom gaskets to start with.

Hi all It's all done now and back in the road. Thanks for your advice. The spacer washer with the taper was the wrong way round !!! good stuff, out of interest what way does the taper face.

Asking this on behalf of a mate, He's got a px200e with a pinasco 215 kit and pinasco exhaust, the problem is the scoot cuts out occasionally coming up to circles/junctions etc. apart from that it runs great.( he's been to the last 3 euro vespa rallies on it). It,s well serviced, ticks over fine and has had the carb/carb bottom gaskets changed. ??

was your clutch working before you changed the plates, what make of plates did you use and did you soak them in sae 30 engine oil before fitting. it sounds like the plates are too tight in the basket and are not separating. Also if you have a warped steel plate that can cause this problem.

try pulling in the clutch lever with the engine off/cold, then push the kickstart lever down with your foot. if your clutch is working correctly it should take 2 or 3 push downs for the kickstart to drop with no resistance. this proves the clutch plates are separating correctly, if it takes quite a few pushe's and you still feel resistance, then it's probably due to a warped clutch plate or clutch basket problem. having said all that iv'e come across some cosa clutches that just don't work in the scoot but look fine out.hth

After taking the electrical part of your ignition off, the next bit you see is the steering lock, this part sits in a recess in the forks and won't come out unless you drop the forks, so I don't think hammering from the back will knock the barrel out. I would try lever/tap out the plastic (on, off, lock) part on the front, this should pull the barrel out. there are a couple of anti rattle shims to catch when removing the plastic on/off part. hth

your engine would have a starter motor and or a gear/teeth behind the flywheel if it were electric start.

if they've never been changed before, there will be a metal clip holding both outer's together, and this will be the problem. the clip is usually near the under headset, in the frame. I usually pull the cables up, take the clip off, then tape the new cables to the old ones then push/pull cables through the frame out the bottom. if the old cables are already lost in the frame, you will have to take the petrol tank out. hth

sounds like it needs new piston rings at least if not much compression.

sound's like a flat spot when opening the throttle, I usually find it's either the air mixture not set correctly or the slow running jet blocked at the tip

if you think your scoot is sitting low at the back, the rubber mount on the top of shock may have come away, check the shock is not rubbing on the rear tyre.

from my experience servicing vespa's and coming across a lot of knackered clutch seals, if you drain the oil and it's full of petrol, that's a sure sign, or if hardly any oil come's out and you refill with fresh oil then black smoke belches out the exhaust that's another sure sign. Must be where the seal tears that you get either symptom.

Does anyone know where I can get a clutch side woodruff key for a px, that fits, I have bought a couple from two well known shops but the key,s were too big. Their advise was to file the key's to fit. Cant believe nobody has a stock of the piaggio part.

Any one know why the rubber grommet that sits ont the throttle slide adjustment screw, is fitted what appears to me upside down. earlier px;s had them pushed through the carb top, making a good dust / water seal. Now all the one's i see are flipped over. factory fitted....

it's the catalyser, and no you don't need it, just remove it with the old exhaust, fit your sip pipe and enjoy.

yes the second plate has either one or two notches on the edge, as it's same thickness as the rest, i thought they are oil channels.

A mate has pinasco kit and pinasco exhaust, it's a great set up, he has toured all over europe with no problems and gets better fuel consumption than standard P2 s.

had this flatspot problem myself, as said make sure the pilot jet is clean. (use a strand of electrical wire to clean end hole in the jet). I never fully eliminated the problem, but turning the air mix screw out 1 turn improved it.
