Having just had the problems with my gearbox sorted on my PX,(sheared teeth on 4th and 2nd gears - see earlier post "First time on a vespa nightmare") More trouble ! Oh no, now what ? Coming back from Brid, I now have trouble selecting 3rd! Changing up to third is a real struggle ,eventually it goes in ! Changing down to third no problem, as is finding all other gears. A bit of clutch drag as well ,but that's easily cured I believe. Before I take it back ,is there anything obvious I should look for first ? Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers.

Both are related to slack clutch cables. A quick bit of adjustment and you should be fine

And if it still won't work with the cables adjusted correctly, try using the magic ATF instead of the SAE30 oil in the g/box. Mine was the same as yours but the oil alleviated the symptoms of the third gear 'jam'.

Tried adjusting clutch cable today (both in and out) as suggested, but no joy. When I adjust cable "out" to tighten and put in first let out clutch,- stall. Cable seems very tight between clutch arm and adjuster ? (left hand like Popeye soon !) Sets off when first selected with clutch in!- stall ! When I adjust cable "in" to slacken and put in first let clutch out, -stall or creeping forward. Is it just a case of fine adjustment or just me ! Which ever way I try cant seem to "hit it" Rapidly loosing Patience and skin on knuckles ! Jesus I thought my LI was temperamental !!!

I'm by no means an expert but I had a similar problem.
Sounds like the clutch arm is not pulled forward enough. There is a fair bit of movement in the arm before the clutch actually engages. Push the arm forward as far as you can with your finger and lock the cable there. Do some fine adjustments after that.

Still cant seem to get my clutch adjusted right. Which ever way I adjust, when I try to set off in 1st it either stalls or jumps forward and stalls. Just cant seem to "hit the happy medium" between too tight and too slack. I've tried pushing the clutch arm as far forward as possible before locking up and adjusting (Cheers esy 888) but no joy. I'm considering the "magic oil route" kru251,is this the stuff ? Dunno what else to try. Cheers all for your suggestions.

try pulling in the clutch lever with the engine off/cold, then push the kickstart lever down with your foot. if your clutch is working correctly it should take 2 or 3 push downs for the kickstart to drop with no resistance. this proves the clutch plates are separating correctly, if it takes quite a few pushe's and you still feel resistance, then it's probably due to a warped clutch plate or clutch basket problem. having said all that iv'e come across some cosa clutches that just don't work in the scoot but look fine out.hth
