I recently got a '75 125 TS which I'm loving. It's in remarkably good shape for a vehicle that age. The logbook says it was imported in 2000, presumably from Italy but who knows... It appears to be pretty original (a little tatty but solid). The scooter's running great but there's one minor problem. When I change up to 2nd it tends to go into neutral. Changing down from 3rd to second seems to work fine.
I'm wondering if either I just don't have the knack... Is there any adjustments that can be made to cables etc... could the selector box be the problem or (and I guess this is most likely) is the problem going to be worn out cruciform etc... inside the box.
Any thoughts?

most likely slack in 1 of the cables makin it hard to judge ya gear changes ,take the top off ya selecter box an move the gear change bar to see if cables have slack.there suppose to be no slack but not in tension either .as its changing up is ya problem the slack/stretched cable will prob be the outside one ,while ya in the area with a screwdriver an 8mm spanner ya might aswell check ya clutch cable adjustment . This sound promising and if I can put off the inevitable day when I take everything to pieces then so much the better.
I'm away working for a couple of days but I'll have a go at adjusting the cables and report back.

Yes, it's a bit of a knack getting the cables 'goldilocks d' Not too tight, not too loose; but just right. Soon acquired skill though. have fun.

Cable adjustment seems right to me....worn cruciform would be jumping out of gear when in second....one idea I tried when I started out was , when changing up 1-2 , count in your head...1 and 2...that takes you thro neutral into 2nd....
You may scoff but it worked for me

a mate had the same problem recently, it was a worn selector box.

Had a fiddle with the cables... they were a bit loose so I tightened them up a bit. This doesn't seem to have helped though so my slick get-aways from the lights are still a bit dodgy.... I'll have another fiddle when I get a minute but I think I may try a replacement selector box. The lobes of the cam around 2nd gear look a bit worn and the cover's missing and it's pretty cruddy in there.

if the indent 3rd one round clockwise (2nd gear) is really worn that would make it hard for you ,but what are you comparing it too,as the indents vary in size getting larger a little as you go up the gears ,well they do on my super an px an vbb ,not sure about a ts but think its the same.there all a bit crudy as there packed with grease for a lubricant but having no cover wont help any.instead of a new selector box you might get away with a new spring an 2 ball bearings for the plunger arm .it will help it locate into the indent more positively even if it is slightly worn .that an a clean up an new cover an re-grease an a more deliberate gear change technique (see mickmidas above)should help ya find second reliably ,even when racing from the lights. the spring an balls are about 6 quid a set ,was in allstyles scooters about 2 weeks ago an they had a box of cheap/bargain/clearance stuff on the counter ,noticed sum selecter boxes in that for 12 quid ,there was a vbb 3 speed,px 4 speed an lml 4 speed ones ,didnt see 1 labelled ts but as far as i know there all pretty much the same apart from the indents on the cam (3 or 4) ,well for large frame vespa's up to the px electric start .an i think the difference there is in the cover a where its screw goes into the crankcases .hope that helps ,H

Yes, the TS is the same.
If it's full of crap, then clean it all out... It could just be sh*t up to hell.
