I am using the pinasco split rims, and I really like them, I had to change the wheel studs on my vespa GL as they were not long enough for the slightly thicker wheel, at tyre changes I bought new o rings for them but not from pinasco as they are really expensive for an o ring, easy tyre changes at home also a bonus over some of the other tubeless rims that do not split

I think we all know it is better to shop face to face (not straightforward just now!), but once normality resumes we will be able to go to our local scooter parts shop and build up a relationship with the people who work there and keep local shops open, I know big online suppliers appear to stock almost everything, but my local shop can source pretty much any scooter part or accessory within a couple of days.

It should be noted that someone else`s jetting set up should only be used as a guide, as every engine is a little bit different possibly worth starting off too rich and slowly working your way leaner, if you start off too lean it can all end in tears! Also a common tactic is to be too rich for running in as this will allow the engine to run cooler and less chance of nipping up new piston/rings/bore.
just my take on things

I would fit the new cables before painting and mask up, there is nothing worse than wrestling with a newly painted frame to get them back in

probably better to start with too big a jet and work your way down, so buy a selection and do it that way, also doing plug chops etc, however this is a try it and see method, proper dyno set up is the correct way to do it but costs and you may not have a dyno local to you.

They do not come pre-set so you will need to check jet sizes are correct etc if buying a direct replacement si carb, do you know any local vespa riders who may have a spare carb to try? even one from a 200 or tuned motor would do to try it first.

It sounds like running too lean, what was the original fault that caused you to change the piston? Possibly running too lean due to air leak, are you loosing gearbox oil?

For carrying heavier loads you probably want to icrease the compression damping and increase the spring pre-load, but like Adrian highlighted start soft and work your way up to a harder/stiffer setting (just the shock absorbers, not any body parts!) until you achieve a comfortable setting for your riding style and load.

It has got to be worth a try if it is not siezed, to clean carb and try some fresh fuel and see what happens

Flywheel woodruff key snapped so timing out? massive air leak from crank seal? exhaust blocked? I assume when kicking over it can wet the plug to verify fuel getting through?

I had a similar problem after drilling out a lock from a frame I bought without any keys, I needed to shorten the small pin that rotates when you turn the key as it was slightly too tall, once shortened it worked fine although the spring doesn`t really return the lock to the out position, I need to pull the lock out while rotating the key to get the steering lock off, also I think I used a fairly cheap steering lock which maybe did not help.

you probably won`t know what the bore looks like until you take it off, if the Nikasil is damaged then I don`t think it can be rebored, however I think it could be re-coated but probably not worth the expense, easiest option is a clean up and a new set of rings, 2 stroke motorbike tuners do some repairs on coated barrels. If the bore is damaged then it may be easier to try a different kit, b ut as you well know where does it all stop, port the cases to match, crank webs altered, bigger carb etc etc t5 4th gear and the list goes on. let us know what it looks like once off.

Firstly got to be worth checking all carb jet sizes are correct and make sure they are not too big, it does sound like it is spitting back fuel through the carb and soaking the filter, also worth making sure carb float is set up properly and not flooding and that float needle shuts off fuel properly, make sure choke mechanism shuts off properly.

Someone else told me about this, and there was a thought that FB were concerned about scooter groups being in some way extremist! I suppose they are a bit extreme, I mean who else would consider engine seizures as part and parcel of ownership, who else would consider riding around on something with the engine at the side making it out of balance, who else would think it acceptable to take out a measuring jug at the petrol station and add oil to the fuel, who else would not leave home without a spark plug in their pocket as a minimum, i have seen owners also carry a spare piston! Does that make me an extremist? Extremely daft? Extremely old? Maybe!

Scooterbooter, you were right the first time, get a new exhaust etc etc, catalysed px is shockingly slow up hills etc.

Hi Gary Yes it is worth doing especially if you are going to change the exhaust as well, as far as I know you can buy them already drilled out from sip,and you will then need to increase the main jet.

An electrical multi meter is a great help for this sort of thing, and they are really cheap nowadays, so you can check for power and continuity in wiring and connectors, older models only have a brake pedal light switch and no switch on the front brake, but obvious things like bulb, bulb holder and electrical connectors would be a basic starting point.

Got to be worth the cheapest part and easiest to change, fit a new spark plug, make sure carb jets are the correct size if running standard set up, are you using catalyst exhaust? could exhaust be blocking? Is the air filter clean? These are all the cheap simple things to check so worth starting there. Hope this is a good starting point, once it cuts out check for spark and fuel, if either not present then you will have a heads up about where to look next, make sure fuel tank cap breather hole is not blocked.
