Put a new standard cylinder kit on my px 125 and found it to be running extremely hot after just a few minutes when the engine was idling. It's the first time the engine has started in 2 weeks following a breakdown in which I found damage to the original piston and cylinder after further investigation. Would this mean that I have some sort of air leak it's had a new base gasket and I used a small bead of sealant on the head but it does'nt appear to be leaking. Or am I using the wrong plug (NGK B6HS) any advice or similar symptom answers would be appreciated.

What kit is it? I would have said a 6 wasn’t enough, you want either a 7 or 8 depending on what you’re running.

It's a standard kit (Bore 52.5 and 3 transfer ports) not the most expensive and is not an original stock part. Will a new cylinder be coated in something that has to burn off as it was smoking a little? I did not replace the cylinder head and used the original would this have something to do with it? The scooter year is 98 and has been very little trouble up until now.

It sounds like running too lean, what was the original fault that caused you to change the piston? Possibly running too lean due to air leak, are you loosing gearbox oil?
