I am looking for pointers on stripping my Vespa 90 for painting. As I said in my introduction, I am a bike man and I dont think there is any job I havent done on a bike (apart from the specialist stuff like chroming painting ect), looking at it it looks quite simple to get a bare frame, I remember years ago removing an engine and it just involved disconnecting cables, remove carb, disconnect wiring, then unbolt shock and pivot bolt and engine is out. there would be the tank, back light, stand, brake pedal. The bit that looks a bit more involved is the front end looks like remove the securing bolt and disconnect the cables and lift of the top housing some detailed help or a pointer to a guide on this would be helpful, I have a Haynes manual and a book How to restore Classic small-frame Vespa Scooters. Another question is what to do with the cables, I am going to replace them, are the best left in during painting to allow feeding of new cables, maybe I was thinking of putting in net curtain cable to use as guides,or is it straight forward to feed cables into a bare frame. Thanks in advance and anything I have overlooked maybe wiring or anything else relevant.

Take lots of pictures. Headset is as you say, just remove pinch bolt and lift up. Cables, some leave them in while others take them out, so up to you, they can be a pain to thread through or they go straight in š the joy of smallframe scooters. I am toying with the idea of selling my 64 v90 , but undecided, will see how your project goes

It's doable just sometimes they snag, only had a problem once and have had scooters for more years than I want to remember, as it only seems like yesterday that I was riding my 50 special š„“ how time flies

I would fit the new cables before painting and mask up, there is nothing worse than wrestling with a newly painted frame to get them back in
