Ok I have a px 125 , 2002 , and I was having trouble with the carb. You can start the bike no problem and ride it as far as you want, it would not tick-over very well. If you turned the tick over up it would over Rev when I was off the throttle. Then if you turn it down , the next time it would stall . once you turn it off, it would not restart. It would run on easy start but seemed to not get fuel into the carb. I stripped the carb down and checked it all for crap etc but it seemed ok , all internals were correct , reassembled the carb and replaced the fuel line ( made sure there were no kinks) Still canβt get it to tick-over well and Iβm having trouble starting it . My question is should I just buy a new carb ? Do they come preset ? My thinking is rule out fuel problem by completely renewing it . What is the best carb to buy and where from ?

My thinking is that it would be nice if you introduced yourself in the Intro section.

They do not come pre-set so you will need to check jet sizes are correct etc if buying a direct replacement si carb, do you know any local vespa riders who may have a spare carb to try? even one from a 200 or tuned motor would do to try it first.

I fitted the new carb tonight, I got it from beedspeed. The exact right one . I have not had chance to give it a good ride yet so I will keep you posted. I did notice though that when I rev the bike up it takes a while for the revs to die back down, this was the same before. Almost like the throttle was sticking a bit? .I know someone said they donβt come preset? But why not , you would have thought they would be set up ready to run? Otherwise loads of people would be returning them? I also changed the spark plug. And I changed the fuel line. Is there anything which would cause the bike not to idle right? Like a air leak getting in somewhere?

Hello there. have you adjusted the mixture screw. not sure but I think it's one and a half to two turns out you should find it in mannual if its weak it will run fast if rich it will slow down and possibly hunt on tick over if you give it a run to get hot then check plug colour good luck let us know how you get on cheers alan.

Sounds like an air leak. Its running lean. Especially when hot by the sounds of it. You can warm bike up and spray the mating surfaces with something like carb cleaner. If it gets sucked in there you go. If not look for clean patches on casings where hot oil or fuel is coming out. Check casings for damages.

Before I got it, it had the engine split apart for new gasket between the casings. Had new main bearings at the same time. I had noticed some drops of either oil or petrol from the bottom of the engine. So I need to check itβs sealed properly all around the casing?

Ok , I put the bike up on my bench and had it running . I took a video . Iβm still having problems with tick over and more of the revs not dropping back down when I blip the throttle . I sprayed the casings with carb cleaner, did not rev up when I did . The only thing I can think of is the air screw not set right, but it will tick over and run fine, then randomly Rev up and stay high for a min or two . I donβt know how to put the video on here?

You might have a small air leak, have you put new gaskets under carburetor. Base gasket?

Won't be that then π so does this mean we are back to the air leak ?? I had a similar problem, and it was an air leak through one of the barrel studs that had been repaired badly by a previous owner π₯΄

How the hell did you get to the bottom of that one? I stripped the engine down, thinking it was an oil seal, and found that when they put a helicoil in to repair striped thread, they drill all the way through the engine case π fixed with some chemical metal I think I will start with the gasket round the carb bottom and the one round the carb box . If this does not solve it I will strip the engine down and examine everything and replace all seals and gasketβs. And might as well replace crank shaft seals off I get that far into it.

Hopefully it will be easy, and just carb gasket. Let us know how you get on PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I changed the carb gasket and the carb housing gasket which both looked rubbish , but while I had the carb out I checked the air mixture screw. From previous posts someone said 1 and a half turns out should be the right setting. Mine was only 1/2 turn out,I added one more full turn. Put it all back together set the tick over once it was running, job done. see video below. You can tell now that when it is reved up then let go the revs drop straight away. THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE GUYS
