I'm changing the front axle on my sprint (69) and looking in my "How to restore classic Vespa" book it says ,Remember to fit the small spacer on the shaft, with a picture of a spacer going on the end of the shaft against the end of the groves for the speedo,(if this makes sense)I didn't have one on the old one is it missing?
Also the woodruff key is pig the get in the new shaft is there a knack to it ?
Cheers anyone who replies

I think its a combination of things, it does look like the spindle is bent but also the new brake drum is slightly bigger than the original drum .I've put the old one back on and it doesn't rub but it certainly is warped. Is it a waste of money buying a new spindle if the forks are bent? it feels ok when riding it.

unfortunately its not the wheel. When i turn the new brake drum it looks warped and at parts rubs against the brakedrum dust cover.I tighten the nut holding the drum in place and there's no movement when rocking it ,any ideas? Just to confirm I've new hub, drum and wheel bearing on my sprint.

After many posts with problems with a sprint I brought (several caused by my own stupidity) I gave up. I was going to take it to a north london shop but took a chance with Vespaman who came round to my gaff. Not the happiest bloke in the world but he does know his stuff. First time this morning I went out on the scooter without any issues. This bloke has kicked me out of depression and may have saved my marriage ! £25 an hour worth every penny. Cheers everyone who as replied to my posts. Going to have a look at the flymo this afternoon.Better look for a lawnmower forum just in case.

I've attempted to put to put back the front suspension back on my sprint,Now I've got to putting on the new shoes but the wheel hub won't go back on as if the shoes are too big. I've sanded them down a bit but still the same my mate suggested I cut one of the shoes back were the spacer clips is . Any advise.

I've now ordered electronic kit from sip fingers cross it solves the backfiring.Had the bike 2 months now and desperate to go out on it more than a test drive round the block.

Can backfiring only be timing related ,there isn't anything else that can cause it is there??

woodruff key changed, feel like getting the electronic ignition just to eliminate all the timing stuff.Driving me mental. Will check with a spanner though.

timing light didn't go too well flashing intermittently went back to bulb and 12v battery method and moving the flywheel. Anyway all was going well went for a test ride but after a mile it backfired when stationary at lights and died.Back to square one.I(we) have changed the coil, carb, points, condensor, htlead, plug,Now thinking of getting electronic ignition unless anyone has any ideas or would you do the same?
