I've set my timing 22 degrees before top dead centre as instructed on a website, is this correct for unleaded petrol as it doesn't mention it .Cheers to anyone who replies .

ok thanks Henri for all your replies, as you know I got it started (faulty switch)and it was ticking over nicely thought i'd go for a ride (1st time)and then it backfired and died.checked plug it was black a bit oily, cleaned it and the bike started then after 5 mins the same again .I read it could be oil/petrol mixture but thought i got it right with my jug.So I've syphoned it out and tomorrow going to get new petrol.Does this sound right.

Since I bought my sprint I've already posted on here a couple of times and been helped out big time by friends also. But where does every one learn about the restoration and maintenance of an old vespa I bought Haynes workshop manual but is there something better like "Dummies Guide"?

would you believe it was intermittent fault on the cut out switch, when checking sparkplug not touching handlebars when trying to kickstart holding on to them , discovered by my mate in 5 mins, left to my own devices id have the bike stripped down.Little knowledge very dangerous
