Since I bought my sprint I've already posted on here a couple of times and been helped out big time by friends also. But where does every one learn about the restoration and maintenance of an old vespa I bought Haynes workshop manual but is there something better like "Dummies Guide"?

for a px theres sausages video , but in my view best way to learn is to do it ,attempt any job with a haynes manual to point the way an ask on here , the only stupid question is the one ya didnt ask but should off , there not high tech an where made to be maintained by diy/home mechanics , a post search will often give you the answers ,an at least on here you know the guys have done it themselves an will get differing opinions/perspectives. look for a consensus an you'll not get steered wrong ,ok, h

ok thanks Henri for all your replies, as you know I got it started (faulty switch)and it was ticking over nicely thought i'd go for a ride (1st time)and then it backfired and died.checked plug it was black a bit oily, cleaned it and the bike started then after 5 mins the same again .I read it could be oil/petrol mixture but thought i got it right with my jug.So I've syphoned it out and tomorrow going to get new petrol.Does this sound right.

learning is mostly hands on and never be shy to try tackle a job with help from the guys on here you will find you can tackle any job one your vespa and as H has stated sausages video it shows you what you need to know. i cant see you your mix being the problem if your using the jug are you mixing your 2% acording to the litre of fuel every litre is a marker on the jug using the side marked 12345 from bottom to top

www.scooterhelp.com is a good start for how to.The same for the book 'How to restore Classic large frame vespa scooters' by Mark paxton. Both will help build your vocabulary, making it easier for the guys here to know what your asking, and how best to help. As above 'hands on' is the best, but if in doubt ask first, it's easier to fix the mistake you never made. Some of us have learned the hard way, most on here will try to help you learn with out the pain of mistakes.

if ya plugs oily n black after 5 mins an scoots dying sounds like ya new carbs over rich on the mixture , first check is that the choke isnt sticking on , on top of carb where choke cable goes in theres a vertical hole ,looking down that the brass choke plunger is visible blocking it when choke is off ,an opening it when choke cable pulled , have a look on ya old carb as it will be easier to see off the scoot , after that check nxt stop is the mixture screw ,at rear of carb coming through the back of carb box horizontally , a beggar to get too, wind it fully in clockwise an then 1 1/2 turns back out . clean ya old plug or get a new ngk b7hs an try it like that ,ok, then a report back here with symptoms or success, H
