Just thought i would ask the question:
Who has used non-scooter related parts as a permanent fix for their vespa?
Im not talking about things which you have lashed together to get you home in an emergency, but modifications made which deliberately use non-Piagggio parts. For example years ago i used meccano brackets on my Rally 200 to help hold my side panels in place. Currently Im using a nylon bread board as a back plate to hold the CDI unit when the plastic cracked on the original unit. My wife went mad when she found out i had cut up her favourite chopping board!
answers please............

Just used the shockers as they came. Tried to use the supplied spanners but gave up, as the whole spring assembly just rotated.

Hi, no i hadnt noticed that. I will upload some photos tomorrow. Ive got new LML forks fitted so that may be different to yours if you've got proper Italian ones. The Pinasco shockers are the business - the ride is so much more comfortable, plus the dive isnt too severe when i apply the front brake. My riding preference is to use the front brake a lot - not sure if this is the "proper" way of doing things but its what I do.

I also have a SIP fast flow fuel tap. When I removed the tank during my recent rebuild, I noticed that I only had to move the tap rod a little out of its natural level position, ie elevate it up or down a few degrees, and fuel would p*sh out of the unit from the gasket. I tried tightening the screw but this was pretty tight already. Needless to say when refitting the tank a fair bit of fuel leaked out, but is bone dry once the rod returns to the level position. Perhaps its a design fault?

now running the engine in. Keeping it down to around 40 mph for the first 100 miles. Everything seems sweet, really impressed by the low down pulling power

Today my wife announced she wants to move to Conwy, North Wales, when we retire - approx 10 years. We currently live near Altrincham. The only condition ive stipulated is that there must be some scooter (Lambretta & Vespa) repair shops nearby.
Can anyone help me with any shops / garages that are any good in that part of wales?
cheers

carole nash can be a bit of a problem. I had to ring them three times to keep telling them the correct details of the bikes. Then they sent me a written policy that was incorrect, together with someone elses insurance quote! I went ape - especially since this was the day after the new data protection laws came in and I had a complete strangers insurance policy details! Several phone calls later and everything is sorted. Just loving riding the smooth Pinasco 215cc vespa, even though i cant go faster than 45mph for the first few hundred miles.

got quoted £158 from Carol Nash, fully comp Lambretta Li125 (186 mugello) & P200e (215 pinasco kitted), with breakdown and no excess. Thought that this was OK since gocompare was saying £150 for just the vespa.

panic over - faulty woodruff key. Phew this was re-tightened and flywheel replaced within 15 mins of unloading the scoot off the trailer at the shop.

engine work stopped! picked the scoot up from the shop after having the new front disc fork fitted and brought it home. Fitted the tank and fired it up. sweet as a nut! Ticked over for 10 mins. Left it an hour and then fired it up again for 20 mins. It appeared to be a bit smokey which I thought a bit strange. Left it a day and then on sunday fired it up again for about 30mins. Switched it off whilst I listened to the 2nd half of the city v Southampton game then as City scored, I tried to start it up again. It coughed. spluttered and died! Talk about a bitter / sweet moment. Tried to kick it over but absolutely nothing, then a grinding sound as i moved the flywheel around with my finger.(?!) Not good. Taking it back to the shop on saturday for an autopsy.

Ive only heard positive comments about the SIP road 2, which is why i bought one for my P200e. Havent yet used it so cant really comment, but it seems a quality piece of kit.

do a proper job - douse it in petrol, set light to it. Then buy a metallic scooter such as a PX125

my mate came round tonight with his crimping kit and i connected my wires. I did not realise that it was so simple! But why is there so much excess wire in the box, all wound up on itself? I left it as it was instead of shortening them just in case.

I think you have to drill out where the lost key would be inserted. The locking mechanism will be destroyed, and you will have to replace the whole unit. The only other option is to try and pick it open with other keys and sharp metal objects. oh forgot to say that you should introduce youself first on the new members thread.

Changing the conversation back to all things hi-fi related, I got the Who Live at fillmore east last week but havent had time to put in on my turntable yet. Ive listened to it on down load, but am hoping for an improved sonic experience on vinyl. Im currently decorating my living room so im moving my system and speakers around the room as I paint, needless to say the stereo separation isnt optimum!

215cc Engine with 28mm carb was eased back in to the frame this week, with help from my 12 year old son, numerous blocks of wood, a skateboard modified to be an engine trolley, a long plank of wood was used to act as a lever to align the engine with the holes so the bolt could be inserted. All went rather swimmingly!
The LML disc forks arrived a few weeks earlier. I removed the fasteners and replaced with stainless steel ones, upgraded to a Pinasco yellow shock absorber, sanded the small areas of rust from the "new" forks and applied smooth silver hammerite x 2 coats. Just need a master cylinder now.
next steps will be to spray the flywheel satin black, add the stainless rear brake clamp and make the electrical connections.
Then I will take the scoot back to the shop for the forks to be fitted, and for the cables to be attached.
Happy Days!
