I would not buy a helmet online, go to a shop and try them on, buy one that fits the shape of your head and is a known good brand name, do not risk fake or copies or anything like that, it is just not worth it.

If the clutch cable was too tight it would select gears easily and not fully engage, giving a bit of slip especially in 4th gear

Clutch removal is not an engine out job, just need to remove back wheel and jack bike up, may require carb off and shock disconnected to drop engine down on pivot for better access, got to be worth a look if above doesn`t work.

It kind of depends on how you look at it, 20 odd years ago Alfa Romeo had a lot of twin spark engines, Alfa claimed it gave an improved burn of the mixture making it cleaner and more powerful, whereas a lot of the motoring press claimed it was either a gimmick or introduced to rectify a poor design and make it clean enough to pass emission regs, but this was not on a 2 stroke.

Hey scooterg you could consider moving to the now very popular darkside and use an auto, you would be shocked at how user friendly they are and easy to use, they lack classic appeal though.

I bought a complete clutch made by FA Italia and it had been lightly oiled, but I let the plates soak overnight anyway as when you are holding it in your hand, it is really easy to just take it apart and do it properly, if you do not have a clutch compressor, just make one from either a long bolt and some big washers or threaded rod, nuts and washers.

I have a 03 plate px200 and it has a spaco carb, as far as i know dellorto had stopped making the SI carbs by then. To my knowledge 2003 was the last year of manufacture for the px200 as mine is one of the last ones made, a serie special. You may have old stock, or perhaps a Ron Dealey special. A standard set up is a Piaggio rubber cap with no resistor, and the small resistor on top of the plug that screws on, worth making sure air filter is clean, then check jet sizes, all fairly easy to do.

is the ignition switch switching on? there is an earth wire you can remove from the cdi unit that is the ignition off wire, this is basically how thieves use to hot wire a vespa, if you remove this wire and still nothing then it at least rules out the ignition switch and then if all wiring and connectors good it may be a stator coil issue.

From memory you feed the new cable down and as it passes the hole it is meant to come out of the cable is at the wrong angle to come out of the hole, therefore you need to use a bit of welding rod or similar with a hook bent in it to hook round the cable and pull it out of the hole. Like Mij says check out youtube videos for a better description.

There is a couple of people in Scootering magazine advertise this sort of service although probably for older scooters, I assume it has not been registered in the UK before or if it has you have no record of this? Try to contact Rob Skipsey 07836 544 059 robskipsey@talktalk.net or enquiries@supertune.org Gary 07815 716593, got to be worth a phone call to find out the best course of action.

I fear the electric motor may be a bit soul-less when compared to a proper Ape, and it will not have that classic 2 stroke smell, so not one for me, I would however consider a proper old school Ape as I think they look great and have character even if a bit slow, there are not many scenes more iconic than a Ape delivering goods down a narrow cobble stoned street in some Mediterranean town or village where the streets are too narrow for a modern delivery van. I know Piaggio have made an electric Ape for modern day use but where is the fun in that!
Just my way of seeing things.

I have never seen a trailer in which you carry a passenger before, so not sure if that is allowed in UK, but it would certainly get a bit of attention/weird looks, you could tell folk you use to have a side car but don`t like the person anymore so they sit out back where you cannot hear them!

Vespa is... Still to this day taking the p*sh out of the Vespisti, with its quality of rustproofing.
Having wondered for about the last 40 years, what I see in them?, when Piaggio has hardly given two f**ks about the quality of their products (px/T5 classic sh*t paint jobs in the 1980's/1990's- to sh*t engine cases etc, in late/last production PX disc models! ), whilst at the same time here in the UK, selling them as a Premium product! And charging accordingly!
VESPA IS... A large part of my life, inspite of how Piaggio have treated it! 😉.
Mij ☺
If it rusts away hopefully you will come back and buy another one!

It is easy to be a critic of Piaggio and I often am, and yes what Mij says is correct, I think that when the basic vespa design was launched they had no concept of how long it would run for, I think that the model updates have been laughable when you look at what other 2 wheel manufacturers do, however part of the iconic status must be that the basic rediculous layout of an engine to one side and a basic shape/design was still sellable for so long with only a couple of minor tweaks. What are the fundamental differences between a late 50`s Vespa GS and an end of line PX? A disk brake, indicators, 12v electrics and small changes to some dimensions, other than that the similarities are astonishing, I view it as iconic, a bit like a Mini which was in production using the same basic shape for years, Piaggio probably view it as a way to kick the back side out of an outdated design for another 5 years until the next cosmetic make over, or until the emission laws put the final nail in the coffin, even Piaggio were surprised that the same basic scooter continued to sell in LML guise after they had walked away from it, funnily enough then they put the PX125 back into production when they realised people still thought they looked better than the alternatives. I bet they wish they could make a scooter today that will still be popular in 50 years time! We may see vespa as iconic/classic but Piaggio view vehicles as a way to make money, as that is what they are in business to do, and if putting on 0.5 litres of paint instead of 0.75 litres saves money then guess what? ? I still like them by the way. Ian

They are listed for sale just now at just over £5k I think they look great, just a shame it is only a 200cc engine, I think Piaggio use the Italjet brand for the funky stuff, the original one looked futuristic/weird, and the new one does too. Italjet also had the formula 125 which was a twin cylinder, not many around.

that exhaust is a piece of artwork, and the carb is probably big enough to sook in small animals!
When I was a lot younger anyone with a really quick 2 stroke didn`t have it on the road for long between catastrophic breakdowns! Things have really moved on, that looks amazing.

Looks really good, but alas it all comes down to cost, the main downside is probably going to be the lack of sound! it will probably not feel right if you do not hear an engine, although possibly get use to it after a short while.
Years ago I knew this old guy who had been into bikes all his days and he always said that "any 16 year old using 2 wheels on the road should have the loudest exhaust you could find, not to annoy other people, but to warn them of an approaching 16 year old" which I always thought was quite true.

All the components you mentioned are pretty much what everyone does that rebuilds an engine, probably a good idea to contact your local parts supplier and as long as their prices are not rediculous, use them, and to ID your motor use your engine number if you are going to keep it standard there are many affordable options, a standard barrel and piston kit is not that expensive, but make sure barrel/piston/ring gap are what they are meant to be before assembly unless buying a matched set from a reputable manufacturer. Good luck with the rebuild, on the road for spring?

Hello and welcome, forget trying to work out the age of the frame yourself, get a dating certificate from a vespa club or lambretta club, as this is the only thing the DVLA will accept and progress from there, In scootering magazine there is a company that advertise will do the whole process for you at a cost. you may have some complications as you probably do not have a Nova cert to prove no import duty required etc.
keep us posted with your progress

If you check fork bearing part numbers and they are the same then there is a good chance the forks will fit but the height may be different, bearing sizes are probably a good starting point for a heads up, I have never heard of anyone doing this but why not if you like a challenge.

For use on a 60`s vespa I had to replace the hub studs with longer as the wheel rim is so thick, the standard later model studs are fine.
