Hi Lu, I guess I must have been lucky, 'cos I haven't heard them on BFBS since, but that's typical BFBS. You can have all the hip hop and pretend RnB you want, but very little good music.

I was driving to work this morning, listening to BFBS Radio 1, when this record came on which immediately caught my attention. The drumming was outstanding, and I would compare it to Rick Buckler in his heyday. When the record finished, (I believe it is called 'Wake Up'), the DJ said it was The Targets. I know Spence has been bigging them up for a long time now, and that's the first time I have heard them. Spence, you're on the money again!

Hi everyone, it's the Zepp here. I recommend you tune into 'Boardwalk Empire', the new blockbuster gangster series on Sky Atlantic, and watch Stephen Graham, who played Combo in 'This Is England' doing an outstanding job as a young Al Capone. His 'Making a statement' sequence in last night's episode made Combo seem like a bit of a cissy. I guess if you're going to earn a living as an actor being typecast as violent psychos, Al Capone has got to be the pinnacle of his career so far. Jason Statham, eat your heart out!

I was watching Ireland v Argentina on Sunday from the new Lansdowne Road stadium and they play 'Geno' by Dexies' whenever Ireland score a penalty.

I went to see The Yardbirds in Bielefeld on Saturday night. Not having seen the band live since '67 in Singapore, where they were appearing with The Walker Brothers, I was really looking forward to it. There are only two originals left; rhythm guitarist Chris Dreja and drummer Jim McCarty. The three younger members of the band are all excellent, and we had a great hour and a half of material right across the original band's lifespan, plus a few RnB classics thrown in for good measure. Go and see them if you get the chance. The German support band, The Fulltones (sh*t name, good band), despite only being together for just over a year, put on a really good show featuring covers of The Who, Pretty Things, Stones, Animals, Them, Johnny Kidd, Eddie Cochrane and more. All for €12.00!

Seth, Welcome to the site. I'm sorry, but I can't answer your techy question, but I am sure some of the other members will be able to. I'm just trying to make you feel welcome as there doesn't appear to have been any response so far.

It sounds good to me Clive, nice one. I'm old enough to remember Haircut 100, and the pastel jumpers as well. Hello Robjack, me old mucker, it's the Zepp here. Corduroy breeches and Aran sweaters is what I remember Haircut 100 for.

Hey Lu, it's my birthday as well today. How come I don't get a mention? I forgot to say I went to see Andy Fairweather-Low and his band The Low Riders at The Bahnhof, Bad Salzuflen recently. Not as good as Mitch Ryder, but good all the same. He did a really varied set, including most of the Amen Corner stuff which the Jermins loved.

Went to see Mitch Ryder last Wednesday night. It wasn't quite what we expected as he did stuff from the whole of his lengthy career, but the man's still got a fantastic voice! We got him to give us an autograph, and when he heard Spence had come from Blighty to see him, he invited us backstage to join him for supper. We had already eaten, but spent a very interesting half hour or so chatting and discussing the UK music scene. He's a thoroughly nice bloke, and this experience is one for my memoirs.

Green Onions (what else?) On some BBC2 programme about the impact on having Michelin star/s on restaurants and chefs. Fortunately, I didn't see it all, but it would appear that it helps to get stars if you are French, or have restaurants in France - Funny old thing! And, did anybody other than Spence and me see those two fab programmes on BBC 4 the other night about the British Blues scene?

You'd think that with the wife away in the UK I'd be able to get out a bit more, but no, I've just had a big back tooth out and I'm off the alcohol until it's healed. So - 'You Really Got Me' by The Kinks on a BBC advert for sports coverage.

It's me again, Billy No-mates. A quick burst of "The In Crowd" by Dobie Gray on The Antiques Road Show yesterday, as a woman drove in in a Mary Quant upholstered Mini, with a lot of Mary Quant memorabilia. PS There was a Vespa in "Material Girl" on Thursday night.

That's a coincidence, because my mate Dave Simon's broadcasting from Bastion as well. Sorry about the spelling error. I've sent Dave an email telling him what a great job he's doing at the sharp end. Great news about Terry and the boys getting a top line tour.
