Hi this is kind of I'm new here but mainly some technical opinions please. Always had bikes but not had a scooter since my teens bought a GTS a couple of years back and recently bought a TX200 in good nick, could never afford the newly released T5 in my youth must have wasted hours going back to stare at a grey one through the shop window.
Anyway the TX is an 89 with 31k (kilom) on the clock may/may not be genuine it starts and runs smoothly seems a bit sluggish but I'm 16.5 stone & not used to what is good/bad. A compression test shows a 100 psi so borderline. I'm going to have the barrell off and look at poss replacement rings or a rebore depending on condition/specs perhaps avoiding a cyl kit for now. As for the rest of the engine not knowing the history would i be advised to strip & replace seals etc or leave well alone if its ok. Im happy to put some time/money into it but i know this doesnt always guarantee reliability. I've just bought a sip road 2 for it suggestions on jet sizes & ign timing would be appreciated as i seem to read conflicting info. Thanks in advance for any advice
Regards AL

a tx200 , the spanish t5 but without the magic t5 engine , a stock p200 lump instead . sounds like you could probably get away with just a set of rings an de-coke .if still on original exhaust i bet its choked up with carbon an strangling the motor aswell .stick the sip road on an if on auto-lube a 118 main jet ,on pre-mix a 120 . on tuned barrels i'm retarding timing 1-2 degrees from were they use to be to cope with modern sh*t fuel , not so critical on a stock p200 but most are retarding for safety . at some point in the near future you will need to ethanol proof the engine , the original seals wont tolerate it for long ,i only use corteco viton seals nowadays .also worth checking is the needle valve in carb ,it needs to be a red tip viton one too , dont buy a cheap replacement there often just fake viton ,an also worth considering changing the fuel line .they go hard with age an crack ,dumping all your fuel . Thanks for the responses Gents i stripped the barrell/piston off earlier looks like it's one over size didnt have time to measure up but it looks a bit worn/lightly scored weighing up now what to do next. The polini cast iron 210 kit using original head looks a cost effective replacement do people still use these or is it alloy all the way these days?

A good cast iron Polini kit would be a real nice thumper, I would use that.

+1 on the bgm 12bhp kit , a spanish p200 engine is most likely the later 10bhp with low comp usa spec head .so the bgm kit is a cheap upgrade ,not much more money than a new piston an re-bore .H

Thanks Henri think you're right about the head i was surprised to see usa stamped on it but didnt give it much thought. I think i might go down this route for now see how i get on.. been looking at alloy kits but i think if i go that route I'm best to strip/rebuild all of it stronger clutch etc. I'll do some searching but if i use the bgm std cylinder + road 2 exhaust any suggestions on jetting/timing? Thanks again for fellas for the advice/info

I've just found this thread which covers it i think 👍 vespa.proboards.com/thread/6934/bgm-200-12hp-top-goodOne last question for now it looks like I've got a usa low comp head (10bhp), are there many other variations just thinking if i can source another head Im back upto possibly 12bhp as as a starting point are there any to avoid or codes Im looking for.. anybody have one to sell? Regards AL

theres 2 heads , usa marked low comp an the piaggio marked slightly higher comp type . oh an the joker in the pack ,a usa head thats been skimmed to raise comp . the bgm barrel is slightly shorter an designed to be used with a usa head , if youve a high comp rally type head a thicker base gasket is used to compensate .H

Just an update and gasket question? i went with the suggested bgm kit in the end needed a bit of tidying as said previously rejetted the carb to 122, sip exhaust, timing was already set at 18 seems to run o.k. When i stripped the old barrell/head it had a copper headgasket which I automatically refitted (bgm kit only comes with a base gasket) but looking in the manual now & doing some searches there's no mention of copper head gaskets should i remove it? I didnt get into checking squishes etc as i didnt have any means of altering it at the time anyway.
Thanks all

Don't fit the head gasket ( how thick was the one fitted ?) and definitely check the squish, bud

O.k cheers, I've taken it out now cleaned the faces & used a light smear of gasket sealant, copper gasket was a good mill+ thick no locaters just sat inside the studs. Plugs a tidy brown colour but i will check the squish as u say to make sure. Many thanks & a Happy New Year

Checked the squish today using the solder method and it measures 2.9/3mm the base gasket supplied with the bgm kit was only flimsy alloy, i guess removing that may help but perhaps not enough. I see SIP offer a modified head or am i best to have the barrell modified if so any suggestions who to use near to the West Midlands. I've been reading about port timings to the point where I'm more confused than ever but i guess this won't be affected?
Many thanks

Reason I asked to check the squish, was the copper head gasket fitted originally seemed strange and measurement of the squish now, tells us, that the case hasn't been modified at the cylinder face.
Leave the base gasket on, as standard 200s don't have a squish as such ( enter tech stuff here 😉) your 2.9- 3 mill s fine, seen loads with 3.5 and even 4mm.
I would just run it in as is and while that's happening hunt the net and/or ask here about transfer port and exhaust port and inlet timing, then by the time it's run in, you'll hopefully know a bit more about tuning 😉
Just my opinion.
