Anyone running the BGM "12HP" top end on their P200?
Is there a noticeable improvement over the standard top end?
Not interested in kits as such, just a boost over standard.
Have a standard top end, SIP Road 2 fitted with standard 24mm upjetted slightly at present.

if youve a decent stock top end an road2 you should be close to 12bhp already , better if youve got the higher compression head ,low comp heads are marked "usa" an bring stock down to 10bhp . H

Squish is better at cylinder head with the BGM as it has 0.7 mill off the barrel length also the piston rings are better than standard ones allowing for a wider exhaust port, if you like a tinker ( much easier to do the exhaust port on this and standard barrels, as the exhaust stubb is removable.).

Was hoping for a hands-on review on the top end to see if the quoted figures were true.
It goes ok with the SIP pipe but I feel there`s more to be had.
Will check the head, it`s a bog standard Motovespa engine still running the Femsatronic ignition.
I do like a tinker and was contemplating changing the piston to the better BGM item and doing a bit of porting but was weighing up the cost of rebore, piston, topping the barrel and postage costs against just replacing the whole thing for £125.

Bit the bullet and got one, not too impressed with the finishing, especially the top transfer port, had to be cleaned up quite a bit as did the entry into the barrel which needed opening and squaring off. The ports on the piston were rough as f**k, so tidied those up too. Anyway, the rest was fine so fitted and started running in before VWD up the road in Belfast this year. Will report back with findings.

1983 Spanish P200e bog standard GPS 60mph 1983 Spanish P200e with SIP Road 2 and 120 main/drilled filter GPS 61mph 1983 Spanish P200e with BGM 200 top end and Sip Road 2 122 main/drilled filter GPS 62mph  Speedo reading 105kmph/65mph.
So my little experiment resulted in not a lot of difference really! Timing is retarded to about 19 degrees so maybe try advancing bit by bit and then the next step will be checking port timings and a bit of dremmelling.

How much did it cost for 5 extra mph??

If it was 5mph I`d be happy, that was the speedo reading It was £250 for 2mph GPS haha! Just reporting back on the exaggerated claims for the BGM top end and SIP Road 2. There`s more to come with a bit of fettling, which will cost nothing fortunately.

Bloody hell, would have been cheaper and probably more reliable to buy yourself a phaal, connect the exhaust to your ring piece, hold on and pray!! That's a bit crap straight out of the box though, all jokes aside. At least you are able to attack it with a dremel.

If the end result of the BGM kit was not as good as expected, and you are now going to fettle it, you could probably have achieved the same results by porting your existing barrel and piston and probably only bought new piston rings/gaskets.

Boomshakalak, on a positive note, you have a spare barrel and piston to hand, if you get bad fuel and seize or you could try a different tune on your spare barrel.I have two spare 200 barrels and pistons myself for back up or emergency use 👍
Good luck with your tune.

bit more power? widen the exhaust port at ur current cyl and or timings. open the piston it will have more effect u will learn sthg and safe money
in general be carefull what bgm states, they act very efficient with a clear foxus on good Marketing, but not so kuch on quality and quality managment
often simple common sense is missing some. things hurt what they state in their shop when u read it

Cheers folks, I needed a complete top end for my engine so opted for the BGM as a bolt-on remedy, I had thought about going the GS piston and using an old scored barrel but would have meant piston plus rebore plus time off the road. You live and learn. I`ll just be riding as is for a while til I get my new shed built (just moved house) so the tweaking will have to wait, hopefully not too long.

On a positive note you would have spent not far off that sort of money for a new standard spec decent quality piston and barrel kit. And if the parts are of good quality then it is not all bad news, there are plenty of cheap kits out there with pistons that are not the correct size for the barrel supplied etc. And if you are back on the road for the best summer we have had in years then enjoy it while you can.
Ride safe and enjoy.
