Is there another organisation other than the Vespa club of Britain that can assist in retaining number plates? I rescued a old X reg P125EFL ( I think) and I spent at least 5 years trying to get someone from the club to help me properly. After countless emails, pictures of the scoot, and phone calls over 5 years, they chose not to help in any way at all. I know it's an 80s Vespa, and not worth much, but this isn't the reason why I saved it from the scrap man. I love these scooters. There is a barely visible frame number, the number plate, and I even know that it was first registered in Lincoln (I have no paperwork at all, as it was part of some debt recovery 15 years ago). Can anyone help, or is this destined for a Q plate?

try britishlambretta archive , an also if youve the reg number a in-depth hpi/finance check can give you history .stick the reg number into the dvla vehicle check webpage ,if its on there computer an you can read a chassis number or know it ,just apply for a v5c an pay 25 quid an its registered to you . if chassis numbers hard to read , search the lincoln records for the reg number an it can be checked there .H

Hi H, The chassis number is hard to read, I've spoke to the Lincoln Archives, their words were "it's too new for their records", couldn't believe it! It still exists on the DVLA register, I have checked up on that. Because of this scoot, I lost s lot of faith in the scene, most of that was because of the Vespa club. All my scoots were unknown to them.......

As Henri says if you know the plate and the chassis number just apply for a new v5 for £25.
You say number is hard to read, do you mean impossible to read?
If the latter you could call a nice lady at Swansea and see if they will 'help' you identify what digit or digits are hard to read.
If there is not much useful of the chassis number showing then is is a case of putting down what you think it is and go through the new reg process, with dating certain from VCB or similar you will get a new age related plate not a Q plate so all is not lost!

Brilliant, will try that! It's a non runner at the moment, but it's complete. As I said before, because of this scooter, I almost gave up on the scooter scene. Really fell out with the Vespa club in a big way over this scoot... Thanks!

I'm not that lucky gillie, if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck! But I will give it a try. So it's a case of ringing the DVLA up then?

Yes, that's exactly what I meant by calling the nice ladies at Swansea, if you are struggling to read one of the digits they will (usually) help you.
And with that info you can get a dating cert and apply for a new reg.
Chances are you will end up with the scooters original reg, that's what normally happens if the scooter is already on the DVLA system, if its not for some reason, you will get a new age related one.
You would be wise to check with DVLA if there is any 'police interest' in the scooter before you do much else, if it turns out to have been stolen years ago, that's a bit of an issue and you best know that now before you go throwing money at it.

I will try and charm the undergarments off the DVLA women. Hopefully it will work. I'll give it a go within the next few days... I bet I get a bloke on the phone.........
