Exact same thing happened to me about 5 years ago. I kept the clutch engaged to try to kick it back into life as it coasted to a stop, but no joy. It restarted after half a dozen kicks and has run perfectly ever since. It felt like fuel starvation to me, and I assumed there was a blockage somewhere that just cleared itself.

Remember the old spray cans of chrome paint that looked like sort of shiny primer? Well whether chrome is your thing or not, this is pretty impressive. Worth sticking with to the end.
Nik, look away now.

I get that, but like Rudi said, why would it be exposed if it's a sealed system?

That's exactly what I thought Rudi. (re. brake fluid) I normally do my own servicing, but I have had a couple professionally done. Would the fluid have been changed then as part of the service?

I've never had a problem with Michelin S83's, a good all-rounder IMO. I pay about £26 each and they last about 4K miles on the rear, forever on the front. Heard very good things about the Schwalbe Weatherman tyres, might give them a go someday if they sort out the reported problems with them. (See Scootering mag)

That may all be true Lucia, but the real question is, did you pick up any decent knitting patterns in the Woman's Realm?

Hi and welcome.
There is a noticeable clunk when shifting from neutral into first, generally less so when going first to second to third etc when moving off, all quite normal. It's not right to say that there won't be any resistance, but the gears should select relatively smoothly once the engine is spinning. I say relatively because there is still a clunk, just less of one. If it concerns you, check to see that there's oil in the gearbox and what condition it's in.
I wouldn't worry about looking to see what gear you are in, the engine revs will let you know if you are in the right gear. It's all about feel and you should gain this experience relatively quickly the more you ride.
Edit: Miles, me.

Had a fella approach me today with this old chestnut. The conversation went like this. "I used to have one of them" "Really? Nice one" "An SX2000" "You should have kept hold of that mate, cost a packet now" "When I say had one, I mean nearly had one. I bought a Reliant Robin instead" "Good choice" I didn't say, before donning the lid and scooting off.

Increased fuel duty = Increased likelihood that hauliers and those dependant on vehicle movements go out of business = Less tax payers/more benefit claimants.
There's a strategy for growth. Genius.

Aye Bryn, I should have said that it's (118) not enough if you are going for the pipe and drilled filter.
I was running the 118 with the SIP road and the plug chop was fine, then I realised how much crap was on my air filter and cleaned it up. That's when I went up to 120.

Sorry Kru, you'll have to explain that inside/outside leg to me. Do you mean outside the fork leg? I can't imagine that's even possible?

It should start first time when it's warm, but when cold it's normal to take 2/3/4 kicks to start. Remember not to open the throttle when trying to start with the choke pulled out, it should start without. Only touch the throttle when the engine kicks into life.

. I read that you can buy the air filter pre-drilled, anyone know where? I'd like to keep the standard one incase I want to change back so if I'm buying a new one to drill ,if I get it pre-drilled at least I know it will be spot on. Available, conveniently, from the same place as the exhaust. (see third pic) www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/air+filter+piaggio+_40250000

Passed. No mention of speedo.
I've since replaced the cable and worm drive, simple enough, but that small bolt that holds the little retainer plate at the wheel end is a bugger to replace isn't it? It nearly got launched up the road on a number of occasions. Mind you, it didn't help having a 5 year old trying to strangle me with a bungee cord at the time, the little angel.

With the SIP, I went up to a 120 main jet. I've been told that even that's not enough but it seems just fine to me. Plug chops look just right. I would imagine that 118 is risking it a little, and it's deffo not enough if you're going for the drilled filter. Mine doesn't seem excessively noisy compared to a Sito, I would say it's much closer to the standard than that. I always wear earplugs though so I might just have not noticed. Any pics of the new P Dan?

To answer the question, I'm no further on. Remember those commitments I mentioned? Well it now means I won't be getting it done til next week. The scoot is locked up in the garage until then. I'm not going to do the speedo before then so I'll let you know.
Sorry to disappoint, I can tell you're all excited and desperate to find out. ;D

Well it finally happened, after 18000 miles the speedo packed up, with MOT due in two days. From what I can gather, it's not actually an MOT fail as it isn't officially checked due to the fact that they don't ride the bike. Well guess what, they do where I take mine. They ride it from front of shop round the back to the test bay.
Now due to the fact that it's illegal to not have a working speedo (if fitted) do you reckon they'll be duty bound to fail it? Will they issue a notice, or ignore it completely? Anybody have any experience?
Due to other commitments it's going to be a ballache to change the cable and/or the drive before then.

Whoa, don't do anything hasty. Are you absolutely 100% certain of the origins of this scooter? There is an awful lot of shiny crap out there and a lot of them are deathtraps. I'm talking about Asian restorations, mainly from Vietnam. Have a read through this to give you some pointers. www.rovers-usa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1938They are getting smarter, so if your bike doesn't tick all the boxes mentioned, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's legit. What does set alarm bells ringing is that it hasn't yet been registered in the UK. My personal recommendation is get a PX or LML to start with, which are much less likely to be a bodge, until you get a feel for the market. Please don't join the long list of unsuspecting buyers who have been stung by these bodgers.

Bennetts have rung me to tell me they have had a re-think and they will now allow me the privilege of renewing with them.
Erm, how does 'kiss me swingers' sound?

Hi and welcome,
It's a 150 Super, made from '66 to'79.
Bit of a project that, you might want to contact the Vespa club of Britain regarding getting it registered. Good luck and keep us updated.
