Hi, peoples! I'm a little bit confused as to what's going on with my license. I've applied to the DVLA for a provisional license, which I got last week, but now I'm confused as to whether or not I need my CBT for a 50 Special, with a bog standard 50cc engine, classified as a category P scoot. Do I need my CBT, as everyone says, considering it said on some piece of paperwork or other that I could get my license "with a view to passing a test," or can I jump on, scoot off and get my CBT next week? It might be worth noting that insurance, tax, MOT, helmet etc. have been taken care of, and the fact that I'm only 16. Cheers, folks! Oli

Hi Oli. There's loads of threads running on licenses so it might be worth having a browse.
The long and short of it is, yes, you have to do a CBT before you can legally ride on the road. This means you'll need to either borrow a scooter at the testing centre, or get your own scooter delivered to the centre on the day. Once you've passed you can ride home.

I did one, some years ago, on a cutdown with a DR kit fitted, the instructor was impressed with my stoppy for emergency stop.
