Hiya Ian, often wondered what happened to you and your lot - we grow older and apart. Remeber Matt, Sparky, Max and that lot? Them where the days eh, riding around West Kirby and having BBQ's on the beach. You went out with Linda D for what seemed like for ever and we all used to call you 'fitch and chips'! lol. Nice to see your alive and well

When I was in a tailor's in Kowloon I had to try to describe the suit I wanted. I had my penny loafers in my bag so he could get the leg length right, but I really wish I'd thought to take the book with me. If I ever go back I'll definitely remember it.

Spooky Mark, my dad was on the phone to me only yesterday talking about a band in the 60s from Southport called The Toggery 5; they were sponsored by the shop.

No mate, I don't think so. Same name as his shop, but it's not him. This one's based in East Grinstead and they charge 500 smackers for a whistle.

It's a small world eh? Fancy somebody else remembering The Toggery. I got my first shiny silver suit (as per the Ace Face) from John Collier in Birkenhead in '64. I took some stick from the lads in the barracks, I can tell you. But hey, doesn't that always happen to trendsetters?

Never mind buy a scooter, you could fly return to Hong Kong, have a holiday, and get a suit made for that.

Seriously, I can't stress enough the value of "Tailor Tourism". If you're thinking of going on holiday, why not go somewhere that you can also get a bespoke suit made cheap, thereby killing two of the birds with one of the stones?
India (Mumbai), Hong Kong and anywhere like Singapore are good, but you only really need to go as far as Cyprus. It depends on how much you want to spend on a) your holiday and b) your suit.
For example: the Kowloon tailor I previously mentioned, made me the suit I always wanted, with two pairs of trousers (which makes a suit last twice as long), two tailor-made shirts, tailored another pair of suit trousers I took with me, threw in a silk tie, and a suit bag, and did it all in 24 hours. For £265. Sorry, I'll say that again. TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE QUID. I could've haggled, but I would have been too embarrassed. The last suit I'd bought off the peg in the UK had been £250.

Devo, I did sort myself out and I apologise as I never posted the pics that I promised you but I'll e-mail them to you later on today when I finish work.
I have to agree with Spence regarding the tailor tourism. I am very fortunate to have an old work colleague who lives in Rayong Thailand. I've been lucky enough to have had a load of stuff made out there these last two trips. Five shirts , two suits, Prince of Wales trousers and business suits for the wife.
It does cost chips when you get there and the money you pay extra on flights you get back in cloth and the cost of living is peanuts. The biggest bonus is that they make you exactly what you want . I took some of the pics from websites that were recommended to me on this forum and was elated by the results.......... Will mail you the pics mate........... Ian

Hmm, may have a butchers at that. Funnily enough I went with a 'Burtons Special' in the end, I was a bit harsh and based that statement on what they were like years ago. They have some decent stuff now, quite a few skinny fit suits at decent prices. It will do until I get something bespoke made up from scratch anyway. www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1219757&l=a1df5&id=697845763
