So reinstalled the carb and the scooter fired up right away. Great! However there are still two issues:
1. if I twist the throttle quickly there is a momentary hesitation in the acceleration. It seems to bog down and then is ok. Could this be a main jet problem? I installed the new main jet in the kit but noticed it had three small holes in the body that my old one didn’t have.
2. I got the bike idling ok but the pilot mixture screw seems to have no effect depending on the # of turns out. If I completely close it the engine idle rises slightly but that’s it. I was trying to follow the Haynes instructions for turning in the pilot mixture screw 1/4 turn at a time until the engine starts to falter then returning it to the previous setting, then turning it out 1/4 turn at at a time listening for the same thing. But nothing happens. 1 turn out, or 5 turns out there is no change or hesitation in the idle speed. Weird.
Any advice on these points would be appreciated. Thanks.

I should have added that the hesitation in hard acceleration is happening when the engine is under load when I’m riding. It doesn’t do it when the bike is on the kickstand.

Dont get too hung up on the air mixture.
Set at 2.25-2.5 turns out from fully in.
Make sure the carb is completely clean all the jets, the fuel ways.
Also worth checking the fuel tap. Is it all standard?
