I'm taking my current barrel off my 60mm crank engine with a view to a kit next year. As a stop-gap I was going to put my standard barrel back on with , perhaps, some mild D.I.Y tuning to suit. I assume a 1.5mm packer on the base would be the first step along with a bit of port work? Not sure about the head? Anyone done similar? Thanks

The squish is so big on p2 standatd top end you can use a 60mm crank without a packer using the later head.
Ive ran 60mm in the past with no packers and done plenty miles.
But always check squish clearance to be sure.
Theres some good articles on tweaking a p2 top end with good sucess

Thanks GP. Did you just fit and go or did you do any other work, ports etc?

I guarantee he would have ‘fiddled’ about with it… 🤣 wouldn’t have just slapped it on… Ha ha!! Back in the day when i knew a bit less, i fitted a 60mm not knowing about 58 and 60mm stroke. I just bought a crank and it happened to a be 60mm. So yes i just slapped it on with a fresh genuine piaggio barrel and meteor piston...didnt check any port timings or even check squish as didnt even know what it was! Did some big mileage often 2 up on it, it was nippy and pulled strong. Since then ive tweeked a few standard top ends with great success. But went back to 58mm. Check out the sticky/diablo al P2 tune in scootering from a while ago also WhiteOne racing on utube, some easy improvements. Decent box pipes for little money make interesting motors There's some good thick base gaskets out there over pack plates.
