I was returning from cub camp at small dole in Sussex, we were on a red double decker and saw a scooter gang coming towards us up the road. Looked ever so cool. I must have been about 9 or 10, so 64/65

When I was about four or five, so must've been 76 or 77 I saw a lad go past me up Kings Drive on a metalflake GP (although I didn't know that then obviously), with loads of chrome, a whippy aerial and a foxtail, and he had a metalflake open face helmet done in the stars and stripes, with a GP peak so he had his head tipped back to see.
I thought he looked the utter b*ll*cks. I'll never forget that sight, I wonder who he was.

Mine's a similar story to Spence. The image is still burned on my memory. Mid 70's, a blue Rally (possibly) with every adornment imaginable inclucing 15ft dual whip aerials with foxtails bent over almost touching the floor behind. The rider had a parka on, huge platform soled shoes and the greatest pair of Birmingham bags you've ever seen. They were flapping behind him, seemingly almost covering his sidepanels. Fantastic. I did find out who he was though, his younger brother was in our loose knit gang of scooterboys years later. (Hello Stokey!) The image was so strong that this 8yr old (ish) boy tried to make one from boxes, bits of wood and casters from an old armchair. It was crap, but the seed was sown.

Mid '80s when I was about 7 years old - 2 lads in our semi-rural worcestershire village had PX's with seriously big aerials and racks on the back, regularly shattering the peace as they did laps round the housing estate where a mate of mine lived. Once blew an impressively loud childish raspberry at one of them, resulting in him pulling a major skid in the road and then chasing me (screaming and sh*tting myself) along the pavement until I escaped into someones back garden! Made quite an impression...

about 78/79. there were lads from the high school near the middle school i was at (me being about 9/10 yrs old) who would go up and down the road. no idea what ones they were riding, only that there were mirrors, lamps, and one had 4 f**ck off aerials with tails and flags on them. They used to congregate in town when i would walk home from school and just sit on their parked scooters, smoking and talking about....clothes.
