I was tickled last night (not literally) by a typical group of boozers 'admiring' the scoots at the Liverpool sc meet. Some of the usual phrases; "I've seen Quadrophenia, I'm into that..." "That Debbie Harry's in that isn't she" "Are you mods then, what do you call yourselves?" "Hairdryers" (except this one was a bit too drunk and called it a toaster at first) "Do you do about 35 then on them then?" "Nice vespas them" (they all happened to be lammies : Best one was calling Jeff 'Frank" after spotting his Frank Thomas label Everyone must have experienced this at some point - what have you heard in the past?

People going "Oooh I like that one" and snapping photos of a 2002 bog standard PX because it's got chrome accessories on it, when there's a beautifully restored classic scooter next to it.

I wasn't putting chromed-up PXs down Ray, don't forget, I've got one too! It's just one of the things that non-scooterists do that gets my goat.

or women at work. " arent you cold in the winter, why dont you get yourself a nice little runaround" I get last laugh at work cos they've got half mile to walk to their cars in freezing rain and I'm waterproofed before I step out office door!

I was on the back of a friends Vespa once. The police stopped us and asked what cc it was. As it was 'registered' as a 125 thats what he said it was(more like a 200). And the officer said 'i thought so, 200s are bigger arent they'!!!! I was at Bad Manners too, the manager there is a tosser. Told us they were on at 10pm and werent on til after 11. Asked for our money back and he just said i dont do that. So we stayed and spent a fortune getting home. Not going to Zanzibar again.

Mopeds, yes ... have to regularly lecture my mates on the subtle differences between a scooter and moped. I'm starting to think they are doing it on purpose Also the hairdryer one too ... I then point out that it won't hurt then, if I was to run them over with my 'hairdryer'

I get the moped one all the time at work. I just give them that 'W' and 'E' thing with my fingers that is popular with the youths of today I'm probably misled to believe. My particular favourite is "What time do you have to set off from home to get here on that?" Oh how we laugh.
The hours just fly by where I work.

The hairdryer one is a classic. The comeback for any biker that calls your scooter a hairdryer is "How would you know? You greasers never wash your hair anyway"
Unless of course they're a Power Ranger sportsbike type, in which case your response would probably be "How would you know you bald b*st**d?"
Come to think of it, that second one probably applies to most car drivers too.
Another rejoinder is also one of my favourites:
"All the blokes want to be us, all the women want to be with us". They hate that, because inside they know it's true. Ladies I'm sure you could adapt that one to suit your gender if required.

All my girlfriends are petrified if I suggest they ride pillion (can't think why ), and blokes nearly fall off their chair when they realise it's a geared bike - heh.

Its very rare I get to ride without a pillion, there always someone on the back, its wierd when there is no-one there, ;D ;D ;D ;D I luv it when people call em mopeds it just makes me laff! I always attract all the old dears round my scoot dunno why (and no wise cracks) ;D ;D ;D
