I’ve just bought a PX125, 56 plate. The engine is very oil which I suspect is the carb box or carb gasket leaking 2 stroke from the auto lube. I’ve just changed the gearbox oil and it smells of petrol. Could petrol be leaking down from the carb gaskets into the box (via the pump shaft) or is it likely to be the crank seal? The scooter hasn't been running for 3 years before I bought it. Thanks

Sounds like crank oil seal 😒 if it hasn't been running for 3 years, would be a good idea to change all seals and gaskets, and give it a good looking over

Thanks Adrian. I was hoping to run it to the end of the season and rebuild over winter. Any thoughts about fuel getting down from the carb area via the shaft etc? I was going to change the oil after a few miles and check for contamination and I believe there is a running/stalling test wou can do at idle to highlight a worn clutch seal.

Just run it until it breaks down, and rebuild it then, hopefully will last you till end of the season. Just start buying the parts now, so if it doesn't last, you can then get on with it , it's not a job that will take ages to do , unless you find other issues

I will end up putting a kit on it if i take it apart - Lol! What number of teeth will the standard 125 clutch gear have?

I think it's 21 tooth for 125cc

As Adrian said , most likely , clutch side oil seal - had a t5 the gearbox was banging like hell , after picking it up first time on it, done about 5 miles - drained gearbox oil was full of petrol.
