Hello there. My Px 125 2006. Commpression was a bit low so I've just taken head and barrel off to replace rings.they are free and not to much carbon. but I saw oil on crank. not a lot but it looks like oil seal is failing. can anyone let me know if the barrel has a nicasil coating I want run a honer up and down the barrel to deglaze it dont want to ruin it.if I have to strip engine to sort seal I'll do it next year I'm 71 and on your knees for hours is hard going thankyou for all your help cheers alan.

Fair play to working on PX's at 71yrs young. 1. Are you sure the oil is gearbox and not two stroke residue? 2. While some would not recommend deglazing nicosil, it can be done. Ive done it, with 3 legged tool in a battery piston drill on a sliw speed. use a fine stone and oil and be very careful, do not do many passes, and try not to dwell in any one point. If you were near me i would do it for you and the. seal if needed

Thankyou gopowel. yes its clean gearbox oil not a lot but it was around bottom of piston and crank.i rebuilt engine 3years ago 1200miles since rebuild I think the main crank bearing is moving in and rubbing on seal you can feel it move when you pull clutch in and push on flywheel about the same time. next year I'll strip it and use sip bearings a 9 ball main crank bearing this time.regarding barrel i dont know if its Nicosil or not but I only need a light clean up. with the commpression down when hot I thought the rings might be gummed up but they were good. putting it back together with new little end and rings.thankyou for your reply and help best wishes alan.

The std barrel is plain steel and can be honed. Sounds like your crank bearing has gone as it shouldn't move in and out. Have you got standard clutch springs fitted? stronger clutch springs mash your crank bearing eventually. Does your engine use the metal crank seal or the all rubber type?

Hello there. All steel barrel great.metal seal.standard clutch springs.the crank is moving left to right not much. it's when you pull clutch lever in you can see the flywheel move out a little and push back on the flywheel it's the play in the balls of the bearing behind the clutch moveving a little.lm thinking the bearing inner might touch the seal as it's very close. But cant realy say till its apart. Going to use better bearings next time thankyou for your reply

Hi Alan34, Yes until you get into the engine you won't know. If you watch Mistah freakmoped on youtube, he's got some excellent vids about engine checking and building. Regarding your main engine oil seal, there are two choices depending on the age of your scoot. When you remove your oil seal, you will either see a smooth bore in your case which will require the seal that has a metal surround, or there will be a little groove and you will need the all rubber style which grips into the groove. It's more than likely you'll have the correct type already fitted so use that as your guide and buy the best bearings you can, again mr freak gives great advice. Hope that helps. Cheers Kev.
