The air won't close all the way hence its a bummer to start and when driving won't hold an idle!
The problem is with the air wire that goes to the round thing we pull out when we want to use it. Any1 knows a way to change it? Cause the wire is really brand new but the installation is not correct.
About 6 months ago when I took it to the mechanic to change the engine to the 200cc he said it works fine now (which it didn't) and because I know its a bit of a job to sort it out he just sent me away.
I want to ride this scooter but with so many little things I'm about to give up and sell it
Hi do you mean the wire is not correctly installed into the choke arm? if so you will need to take the fuel tank off, not a big deal, and sort it out. If you need to change the wire itself same thing, take the tank off, open up the carb box and there you swop it. It is really simple.
To take the tank out is a bit tricky, you can use a proper tool to remove the fuel tap
or you can take the fuel pipe off the carb and fiddle a little with the petrol tap arm (taking the rubber off), the tank should just came off, the only drawback is that you may have to replace the pipe with a new one.
You could also cheat for the time being and just disconnect the choke cable from the carb. Then you connect another cable and you have it coming out somewhere else, ie the side or the back of the sidepanel, so you'll be able to start and ride your Vespa waiting for a bigger job to sort it out properly
Only bit that I believe I'm not doing right is with the choke cable and the way it fits to the choke arm.
There is a tube that the cable goes into (u know underneath the petrol lever) and this is where I think things are going wrong....I'll give it a try though.
Weather is crap here today rain, wind and the sunny spell now and then so not a good day:(
If you have to take the fuel tank out it's the same as everything else on a Vespa, fairly straightforward, but nevertheless a bit fiddly and time consuming. It was the first thing I did to the T5 last year and I'm a technobiff so if I can do it anyone can.
Remove your air filter pipe so you can gain access to the void through the big hole. As Playdough said you need to disconnect the fuel pipe from the carb so make sure your fuel tap's turned off!
If you have autolube disconnect that pipe too (have a bolt the same diameter as the pipe on hand to shove in the end and seal it). Feed the pipe back through the frame to give yourself enough slack to be able to lift the tank out, but try not to let the rubber grommet pop through into the body as it can be pesky to get back out again.
Take your seat off as the bolts securing it also hold the tank in. If you have a fuel gauge you'll need to disconnect the sender, and sometimes you need to take off the luggage hook bracket as well if it's in the way.
Lifting the tank out is the tricky part as you have to jiggle it to get the fuel tap through the hole (and your 2-stroke bubble if you have one), but once it's through you can lift it up and get at the fuel tap assembly underneath the tank.
Not sure if this was what you wanted in your how-to guide, but I hope it helps.
Hehe was getting worried Spence:) You didn't reply to my post within a few hours and bad thoughts crossed my mind.
Thanks for the replies nevertheless....I am looking for a how-to guide for the choke lever really and the fitment of the cable to the choke levers end. I'm ok with the carbs side:)
Ok this can be a real easy job or a real bitch aint no inbetweens, the choke cable should come as a complete inner/outer assembly. The cable tube you talk about is fixed to the frame there is a small clip that fits to this you need to rotate it and it should pull off this then allows the choke lever to be pulled out beyond the frame. the cable has a double right angle bend in it this fits through a hole in the end of the lever (its quite apparent what I mean when you get to this stage) seperate the lever and cable and the cable should pull freely from the tube..................... okay so it didnt and you seem to have left a bit of it still in there
now this is where its a bitch, get a small drill or dremel type tool and using a drill bit that fits neatly inside the tube carefully drill out the cable end fitting that has lodged itself inside, this should then allow you to insert the new cable refit the lever and securing clip and feed it back through the hole in the frame to the engine bay the rest you say is easy. If like me you cant get the little beggar out of the tube you need to feed the cable in as far as it will go and this is where the piece of plastic tubing that came supplied with the cable comes into play slide that over the end of the tube to help hold the cable in place however this reduces the amount that the inner will come out of the frame making the reconnecting of the lever that bit more awkward. It does work but try as best you can to get the little end cap out it will make things so much easier
the other difficulty I found was getting the looped end through the carb box but again a little bit of time and it fitted saves taking the inner cable out of the outer and then trying to feed it back through bearing in mind its got that double bend in it hope this helps
I am getting withdrawal symptoms now as I have just about finished a rebuild although I made the mistake of attempting my own paint job learned a lot of lessons during the rebuild , currently at the "WHY WONT YOU @*~~## START!!!!!!!" stage.
soon be there though if the weather sorts itself out
Well I took the choke off the carb and gave it a bath in WD40 and then some grease. It works a bit better but i will change the cable at some point soon as well.
Any ideas why it won't hold an idle? Rides fine now, choke is closed so its not running rich, went for a 10min ride to warm it up but it still won't hold an idle.....the mixture screw at the back of the carb box is at the same place where it has been...didn't touch it. The idle screw I have it almost completely off and it still won't hold an idle. If I screw it in it just dies then moment u close the throttle.
