Hi, PX150 2012 engine cuts out when changing into 2nd gear. Sometimes it sounds "strangled" before cutting out. Engine has been warmed up. Engine ticks over in neutral. I can rev the engine OK. Spark plug has been changed.
Any ideas?
Thanks. Richard

Hello Richard I need more info. That's quite vague. Too much so even for a guess I think. Any smoke? Is the engine under load when cutting out? Is it creeping? Will it pull off in second?-there's one. Funny noise? How old are your clutch plates in dog years and mileage? Info Information It'd probably help. X

Hi Scooterbooter,
Thanks for the reply. White smoke when choke is out as engine warms up, but that's it. Engine not under load. Just pulling away in first, then into second & it dies. Not sure I understand "creeping". Not tried pulling away in 2nd, will try & let you know. No strange noises. As far as I know clutch is original with approx 18k kms on clock. Not sure if this helps but I was able to keep the engine running up to fourth with the choke out, not that it seemed to like it.
Regards Richard

Oh so you may have an air leak. Making you lean. A lean engine will stall more especially when asked to give power at low revs or sometimes stalls just by engaging the clutch. So carb is a good guess could be restricted petrol or increased air intake. You got dribble from under the carb by the mix screew? Could be head bolts are loose. What was the last thing you tinkered with?

You fiddled with you mix screew? you haven't leaned out you tick over too much have you? If the revs drop and your too lean it could easily stall.

I'm going to give the carb a clean over the weekend. It's been sat for a while so that maybe the issue. Can't remember what the last thing I fiddled with as normally it runs fine.

Ohhh yeah if it's been stood give the carb and jets a jolly good once over, 2t oil goes especially gluppy.

Quick update. I only managed to look at the carb today, the casing was rather filthy. I've removed the carb & cleaned it. Float valve looked ok, but have given it a clean as well. The only thing I didn't do is remove the jets (not confident about setting them up correctly!), although they have been given a good blast with Carb Cleaner. The gasket, whilst not damaged was REALLY filthy, so going to replace it, along with the other gaskets. Hopefully it'll be back up & running next weekend (fingers crossed).

Have a look at some YouTube videos for cleaning the carb, or scooter help website, removing the jets isn't a hard job 👍

Further update.
Carb cleaned including jets. Gaskets replaced along with air filter. Gearbox oil changed as well. Sadly, still having the same problem. Engine ticks over happily in neutral, able to rev the engine OK. Will go into first gear but as I full away engine tries to die, which does happen sometimes. Can usually pull away put engine doesn't sound happy, restricted. If I change to second gear the engine will die.
Is it worth draining the fuel & flushing the tank? Going to check fuel filter tomorrow, even though it's new.
Any thoughts?

Strip the petrol tap out, clean flter. Then strip the tap. I have seen the rubber washers inside deform and block the the petrol ways. Does it run with choke on? Try a cdi off a working bike and do some stator plate readings. It could be a knackered carb body. Had one on a t5 trued everything convinced it was nt the carb. Borrowed one off a runner and bingo.
