Hi all I’ve got a problem with 2rd gear slipping. It doesn’t do it a lot just every now and then. It can’t be the shim because I took it to a scooter shop and he put the right shim on for me. Can’t remember the gap with the shim but it was right. The guy does know what he is doing he builds turned engines. Everything is new inside my p200e engine apart from the output shaft witch is in good condition. It can’t be the cruciform because It’s new and a good one. Gear selector box and selector rod are the right ones. It was ok the first time I went out but it pulled abit when clutch was in so I done it up more and that problem stopped but then it started to slip in 2rd gear. I reset the gear cables but it’s still doing it. Does the gear cables got to be tightening more then usual because of the new parts. I usually get my gear cables right without tightening the two nuts looking things where the cables goes in.

Its pointing ti clutch
What is the origin of the clutch? - Indian, Piaggio, other etc Did you buy it as a complete unit? - i have always stripped complete clutches when new to check plates, springs, thrust washer and importantly free seperation and mivement of plates. I have found many have problems dry plates, misaligned strings, have had to file turrets to get clean operation.
Best of luck

I got the clutch from beep speed. i had it apart to soke it in oil. It’s been out the engine for a month I’m sure it wouldn’t have dried out that fast if that’s the problem. I’ve got an old I got in a box of bits but I didn’t use it because it had heat marks on it so I fort a new one will be better.

Pull the clutch and give it a good looking at, check plates are oiled plates separate ok and not catching on basket, cable adjustment, brass plunger. Does sound like it's the clutch playing up . One more question, does it only do it when accelerating hard in second gear? As second can generate a lot of toque

I’ve been taking it easy because of running in the engine so I ent really accelerating hard. It don’t do it straight away but I think it does after the revs gone up. Il put it in 2rd and after around 5 seconds it will slip. Today it felt like it went from 2rd to 3rd and back in a second. It was a bit of a hill when it slips. Only did it 1 time when I was testing it for 15 minutes.

Don't use beedspeed. They are no good. Poor quality. Poor service. Poor show. I think we all work too hard to be handing over our money in exchange for tat.

Oohh actually that's interesting. I file the discs or the pads which ever is sticking, I know this encourages unequal movement. But I do it lightly and find it's quicker and easier. You file the bell itself you say? I've only occasionally filed the slots but that normally means it's all on the way out. Hhhmmmmm.

Trust me. If it came down to it I'd put money on you being right! Some of the help you've been giving has been totally sublime. You're a superstar. So i doubt your in the wrong with this one! Anyone else do it the way I do?.... be interesting to know. Keep on trucking.

So I started doubting myself, so just been and measured an old clutch basket (standard genuine piaggio)with micrometer and all the slots are slightly different sizes

I have stopped buying engine parts off beep speed after a multiple gear shaft broke after 45 minutes of riding. My scooter was slipping gears in 2rd and 3rd so I opened it up to check the shim gap to find the end of the multiple gear shaft was in the kick start side of the casing. It broke just abit in where the bearing pins are. A friend grave me the output shaft and said the shim gap was right but it turns out he got it wrong so I took it to a local scooter shop to buy shims and he did it right. I got a sip multiple gear shaft off him and a bearing to replace the one I got off beep speed and installed them into the multiple gear. I’ll never buy engine parts from beep speed ever again. I’m glad I opened the engine to check the shim gap now.

I did think after all that I got it sorted but then to find it slipping just in 2rd. Done my head in thinking it’s not the shims because they are right now and it’s not the cruciform that’s new and the right one. I’m about to take the clutch out today so I’m hoping it’s the clutch after all that. I will check all the clutch and file if needed and I will check the sizes in the basket.

I have removed the clutch and taken it apart to find the discs are dry so I got them in oil till tomorrow. I’ve been thinking to try my t5 clutch because it was ok last week before I swopped it round with the p200e engine.

The tossers never even brushed or soaked the pads? A-holes. When you reassemble your clutch check nothing is fouling the inside of the bell the as you build it ,then once it's together try GENTLY using a g-clamp or vice, compress the clutch (not all the way!) And have a look see if anything is catching. That's what I'd do but it could be buggered springs. Also the metal plates must be in the right order they might have got that wrong. Good luck. I bet a bit of a soak, building correctly and maybe a bit of a file and you'll be laughing.

The clutch was soaked before installing but it’s been out for around a month. It was on the bench by the window and I’ve been leaving the blinds open so the sun may of dried it.The a hole who put the engine together is me 😆. Clutch is out and Ive filed bits lightly with a small file and plates are soaking ready for tomorrow. I checked to see if anything is sticking but it’s all seems ok.
