NGK BR7HS or BR6HS if you only do very short journeys, but the 6 runs hotter so start with the 7 and see how you go. Can't help with the autolube as I pre-mix but I assume any decent quality 2t oil will be ok. Vespas were originally designed to run on ordinary mineral oil cos there was no such thing as synthetic oil 40 years ago. If it helps, I've just rebuilt my engine due to a shot gearbox bearing and when I stripped the top end, the piston and cylinder head were pretty clean and I only use the red 2t oil from Morrisons. We're talking old school technology here which is a total loss system and unless you're running a highly tuned engine, I feel that fully synthetic or even semi synthetic oil is a bit of a waste unless you have a cheap source. If memory serves, I don't think you can mix mineral oil with fully synthetic oil, but that's worth checking before you decide what to use. Hope that's of help.

That’s really helpful, unfortunately the guy that owned it before me past away hence why it was sold and I have know knowledge of what he used , except I was told but his family it was very well maintained and it’s fairly solid except for some patches of surface rust , which for a 38yr old machine I’ll except. Really appreciate any advice .

If memory serves, you can mix semi synthetic oil with full synthetic and also with mineral oil, so if you're not sure what's in the tank at the moment, then semi should be ok. Personally, if it's not been used for a long time, I would be emptying the fuel tank and refilling with fresh and I think I would also drain the oil tank and start again.

When I first got mine but Hay it's a more newer machine but auto lube as well the first thing l did was sucked out All that old oil and started a fresh with the best you can afford !! Sip fully synthetic 2T £10 for 400 miles is not going to break the bank and also cleaned out all the old petrol and start a fresh and see what happens ! as for your older one check out the Haynes manual ! I always use Lucas oil. Was developed for 2t chainsaws, so should sort out any scoot… I have tried many different oils, and found for me, Lucas was best for frequent use, lots of miles.

On an 85 you want NGK B6HS or B7 The Ducati eletrical system of the time was built before resistor plugs (R in plug reference) were used. Regarding oil, drain the tank and select a good semi syntheic and stick with same. Most semi 2 stroke oils are fine in injection systems, it only tends to be the very high end special oils that are specific, check the back it will say. Find a local supplier for consistancy or buy in bulk. In a stock PX something like Comma Semi would be more than adequate. My preference is Rock or Putoline but there are many out there and people will have their own favorites.

Very very good advice l myself are starting to learn now towards the rock oil/ sip oils as l think they had scooter in mind when they developed them !! It's only the euro type with the Chinese CDI that needs a resistor type plug !! Best foot forward soulboy74 ✊
