My Speedo has stopped working on my Belladonna rv150. I know I need to detach headset cover to investigate problem but can't work out how to do it. Thought about detaching from the hub but can't see how that is possible. Am I missing something obvious?

It will likely be the cable snapped at the bottom or the plastic worm stripped.
Remove headset top 1. Unscrew 4x screws from the underside of headset bottom 2 front, 2 back. 2. Push the loose speedo cable up the forks. This will oush the headset top up. 3. Ease the headset top up and unclip the cable from the speedo then unclip the wiring block from the speedo. The top with speedo can now be lifted clear. Wheel end 1.the speedo cable enters the backing plate via a clamped plate. Unscrew the bolt holding the plate and the cable will come out. Be careful as this bolt can snap. Flush with some penetrating oil. 2.inside the backing plate is a rubber grommet, a tublar spacer and the plastic worm. These can be difficult to remove if not lubricated. You may need to drop the backing plate by unbolting the shocker to get better access (2x bolts/nuts at bottom if shocker) Replace inner cable from top down if required and worm if required. Rebuild from bottom up, lightly grease all the parts on assembly Hope this helps

Thanks for the comprehensive info, though I found when I tried previously pushing the Speedo cable up from the forks didn't raise the headset much and I couldn't actually see anything that resembled a clip. Will persevere!

Its all quite tight but you should get enough room to get your fingers in You could disconnect the cable at the bottom. The outer cable is clipped into the speedo with plastic tangs. The clip for the cable is at the bottom of the speedo. heres a speedo cable so you see the plastic clip www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121958174419Heres the parts in the backing plate www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284973806143

LML's have a screw on cable, like early Vespa's
