Recently took my engine out my K reg T5 to give it a clean , fix a few leaks. Drained clutch oil etc. put it back together. Was starting but not running great, only running on clutch. but did start. Now when i try to kick it the kick start is solid and won’t move. Any you guys know why? Thought it might have jumped into gear but back wheel is free.

Nice introduction welcome to the forum 👋. First thing I would do is backtrack all the things you have done to the engine, and I'm sure you will find the problem

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. Never really did anything major to the engine, couple of small seals thats about it. Like I said engine was running on choke, once choke was in engine cut out. This happened a few times then all of a sudden kick start won’t move.

Seals ? ,what seals , carb ones, did anything fall down the inlet, and jamming the crank, that would stop the kickstart 🤔 hard diagnosing over the Internet, where are you based ??

When I say seals, was a couple of sealing washers on the gearbox. Mainly took the engine out to give it a good clean, so not really into the nitty gritty of it. Based in Dundee mate. Just found it strange that it turned over a good few times then just nothing

Cutting out when choke pushed in could be a blocked pilot jet or CDI on way out. Clean the carb and individual jets if no better then a cdi from a running bike, if no better do some test readings on the stator could be LT coil
The bigger issue is the kickstart. If its locked then you need to open the casing. Might just be coincidence its happened.

Lift the rear wheel off the ground, put it in gear, 2nd or 3rd, and rotate the wheel, removing the spark plug would make this easier. Hopefully, the crank spins and the piston is free too. This means that the gearbox is spinning and this may, and I mean may, release the kickstart cog, if it's stuck..
