Hi all, just joined this forum as I'm thinking of buying a (new) Vespa to use to commute to work here in London, and for a bit of fun too....
My only big question is what insurance firms have members who live in London used, as I note that insurance is at least double the price here in London as anywhere else.....quotes i've seen/done on the internet seem to go up to about £580, with none under 390!!! Surley there must be some good companies out there, espcially as I keep reading that they are cheap to use here in London!
And good reccomendations, only problem is I will not be leaving one in a locked garage, but a priviate drive in the evenings....
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, James

Hi James, welcome to the forum. Parking in the drive is probably the problem - you may just have to google as many companies as possible and ring them all to get the cheapest quote. Try and use a ground anchor, that may help.

Playing around on some internet quote sites did result in quotes that were much cheaper if I selected "locked up in a garage" etc......but they don't seem to have many options other than garage, or on a drive etc, maybe phoning them would make a difference.....I shall give it a try! Thanks again!

I'm also insuring a scooter in London (apparently in one of the more higher-risk postcodes) so you have my full sympathy James!
Definately phone as many companies as you can - the internet quotes can be a bit naff as they don't always take into account as many factors as phone quotations do. Whether you use a ground anchor or not, be sure to get one of the makes/models of security device that the insurance companies approve of (Oxford or similar) otherwise there won't be a vast improvement in insurance price. Keeping a cover over the bike sometimes makes a difference too funnily enough!
