px gear change problems

Hi All, my first post.
I have a 69 sprint with a 2001 px engine fitted had the engine to bits to replace bearings, seals, crank and cruciform. checked the gear change on the bench all ok.
fired her up in the scoot will go into 1st and pull away, but cant get it to go into 2nd or any gear. if i turn the engine off it will go into every gear just wont when the engine is running. any ideas?
i have rebuilt a few engines over the years, but never had this problem before.

I would try adjusting the clutch up a bit more so it is definitely releasing, and then I would also check that the gear shift cables are not too tight as they can fight against each other. After this I would be thinking about the cruciform and if it went in the right way around.

Hello there. If you still cant get gears after checking cables I would take cables off gear selector box start scoot warm up a bit then get someone to hold clutch in and try and select gears with the selector by hand if it goes into gears great if not you might feel the cross trying to engage second cog.maybe rule out the selector box. If not I would drain oil and take selector box off and try selecting gears turning rear wheel. also start bike and try pulling the selector rod in and out to select gears only be quick no oil in engine good luck let us know how you get on cheers alan.
