Was just riding home from work when my right mirror swept in completely. At first I thought it had just become completely loose but when I pulled over to investigate it was clear that it had snapped at the joint. Not best pleased Anyone had this happen to them before? Can't imagine it's that common as it could have been very dangerous if the the mirror hadn't have just rested in the groove i.e. flew in the air hitting me or a car behind, probably would have done if I'd have been going faster. I'm thinking that when I had an accident in January the metal of the mirror was weakened some how then, it was the right side that took the impact and the mirror was pushed in completely. The alternative is a bit sh*t, just means that they aren't very strong and are very dangerous. Not sure if this will be covered by the warranty, will ring the dealer tomorrow morning. Might be a ball ache to fix as the metal screw part is stuck in the groove where it has snapped. Apologies for my bobbins terminology, don't know the proper names for stuff yet.

lol that happened to me last nite but it was my left mirror i managed to catch it and put it in my glovebox while still riding, and mine could have something to do with my slow speed accident which left minimal damage, ive yet to investigate the damage done to the mirror though

yes, happened to me last year - I think the mirror's still in Southport somewhere. It was the bracket holding the mirror underneath the T5 headset that was erroded (old stock I think). I don't have any mirrors anymore - doesn't suit the look of the scoot, and the little legshield mirror I've got nearly fell off too so I took that off as well.

I have no mirrors either, my Scooter had two when I bought it but I don't like them. Strange on a Vespa, everyone said when I bought it "are you putting loads of mirrors on it?" Not my style I am afraid, especially not the style I am currently transforming my Vespa into

Style wise, I like the clean look of no mirrors but also think the standard 2 on a PX looks good. Any more than that doesn't do it for me though. When it snapped I was only a quarter of a mile from home but even on that small distance it felt really odd not having it and I kept going to use it. There was no slot available at the dealer until mid June so I guess I'm going to have to get used to it for a while!

The exact same thing happened to me as I was doing 65 on the M62 just out of Manchester on my way back from Huddersfield. I caught it in the crook of my elbow and veered onto the hard shoulder.
Turned out the stem had sheared off right inside the headstock. That's when I ditched both the headset mirrors, put plugs in the holes, and mounted some mirrors on my crashbars instead.

Anyone know of a clip on mirror for the PX? must admit mine looks much nicer with no mirrors at the mo, but I really need to have at least one..

That's the one I used to have, but if it's clipped onto rubber legshield trim, it's not very secure - it needs to be secured to the metal trim to stay on properly.

Thanks for that, not sure how it would fit on a T5 with the mats running right up to the underside of the tool box, there seems to be no trim to bolt it to

Would have made a bit more sense if I'd have been doing 65mph (chance would be a fine thing, struggle to get mine past 55!). As it was I was only doing about 30, guess if it was on it's way out it could have gone at any time though.
Mounted mirrors on the a crashbar might be the best idea, will consider it.
In the meantime I will need to get a new mirror sorted and the part of the stem that has snapped in the groove drilled out I presume, can't think how else they would do it. Hopefully the warranty should cover it all.
Am getting used to riding with just the 1 mirror. Can't say I prefer it though, like to have an idea of what's going on all around me, especially considering my dodgy commute route. Anyone familiar with the joys of Rushholme will know what I'm on about.

Devo I've got a spare pair of the brackets which sit in the headset if yours is damaged as well as the mirror stem..

Cheers for the offer, might well get back to you about buying them if I find out I'm not covered by the warranty in a few weeks.
Hopefully the part of the stem that is stuck in the bracket can be removed some how but if not I guess it will have to be replaced.

Had the mirror fixed a while back ....
However, the more I look at your scoot Bryno, the more I want to get rid of my mirrors ;D
I think I've always preferred the mirror-less look but have been put of by thinking I need them from a safety perspective. Though looking in scootering mag and at readers bikes on here it seems it is actually minority that have mirrors. Think I will just give it a go without them for a bit and see how I get on. Maybe fit a clip-on legshield mirror ... don't fancy having nowt at all.
How easy is it to remove mirrors from a PX? Obviously get the headset off but will cables and stuff need to come out to get to them?

I removed mine and got a new headset top to get rid of the holes, I then had a pair of Cuppini mirrors on brackets under the headset (in black) I now only have one, which works for me..

What plugs did you use Spence? Or if anyone else knows? Got one of those Cuppini side mirrors from Beedspeed so once I've got somet to plug them with I'll have a go at taking the mirrors off and fitting the side mirror (have a chrome legshield trim so should hopefully be secure enough). 1 thing though, when I've put the mirror bracket together, there is a bit left over It's a funny shape and doesn't seem to be needed. I'm guessing that you are supposed to use it to avoid damage when hammering the rubber bits in, that correct anyone?

Two of the proper plastic plugs for filling the holes left by mirror stems, oddly enough. Can't say who stocks them because they were given to me by a nice bloke from Leeds SC, sorry. In the meantime you can always use gaffer tape.
Is the bit you have left over from your legshield mirror a little bit of black plastic?

Quite difficult to track down these plugs, I'll keep looking. Reckon that makes the Leeds fella an extra nice chap Yep, a bit of black plastic ...... it's arched at either end and the underside has a protruding slope. Might be being a bit of a twonk but I can't think what it would be for (other than what I guessed at) ... looks like it will clamp fine when the nut tightens the 2 metal bits with the rubbers wedged in. Though I haven't actually tried attaching it yet so maybe it will become obvious when I do

You can get a pack of rubber grommets in the electrical section at your local B&Q, these fill the holes nicely.

I was all set to get some rubber grommets (that's made me want some Wensleydale cheese) at the weekend until you pointed out they are on Beedspeed ... I had already searched for everything under headset but I must have missed them. Ta for the offer of sending me yours as well, they are only a couple of quid though so I'll save you the bother of posting them.
Cheers all.

Only just got round to removing the mirrors earlier. Don't know why I left it so long, it was as easy as you said it would be Bryno. It definitely looks miles better, and the plugs for the holes look fine as well. Though I will probably replace the headset at some point anyway as there is a chip round the headlight from when I had a little off a while back! Not keen on the side mirror .... don't like the look at all but more importantly it didn't really offer that much advantage anyway. Will try it mirrorless for a while and see how I go on. I've actually gone the other way from how I first started (accessory mad) and gone for a sleeker look now .... have removed the front luggage rack and will remove the flipover rack on Sunday (if I can remove the fuel gauge sender that is, looks straight-forward in the Haynes). Am just gonna put them on when I need them for longer trips.

Nice one!
Yeh, it bothered me not having mirrors at first, I have just one on my T5 and none on my Lam***tta now, but you get used to it, and it does force you to look over your shoulder all the time, which is no bad thing..

I never liked the look of the standard PX mirrors but also didn't like being mirrorless either. Eventually found some F1 style ones from SIP in Germany which I liked. I've been trying to link a picture, but have given up in frustration, so if you can be arsed looking they are Article number AC209045.
They are lower and sleeker than the standard PX mirrors and fit to the under headset brackets which I bought from my local dealers. I also rubbed them down and sprayed them to match my scoot. (First time I had done any spraying and quite chuffed with result.)
The only disadvantage is that with them being lower, I have to pull my elbow in to get a good rearview but I find them a lot better option than having none.
