Got to send loads of bits back now grr. I actually feel quite happy now All looks well inside, obviously something isn't, just hope its only the cruciform, gears look good, no missing teeth or excessive visible wear.

The size of the bore / piston should be marked on the piston somewhere shouldn't it? For the purpose of buying new rings that is.

easiest way to check the engine look at the swingarm there will be two numbers stamped one with a stars at each end and the other should match this VSE1M

Carb is S24 24 & frame prefix is indeed VSE1M
I want to order my rings online, does the 3 mean oversize 3? anyone?

yes assuming its a standard piston you will need standard rings and not oversize ones

Its a 3rd oversize bore / piston, so I can look forward to a new top end in the near future, have ordered rings for now, and a few bearings and oil seals while I am there. The cruciform was well and truly shot to bits, Just waiting for my bits and pieces and a replacement gasket set so I can put it back together. I already had a gasket set as well as seals etc , have had to send them all back for exchange now. Still, hopefully it will all be worth it and I will have a better running bike with all four gears Then will just be waiting for the body to be sprayed, then the horrible job of re-cabling (no I didn't pull them all out) When I did all this before on my V90 in about 1986/7 I found cabling and then connecting all the cables and setting everything up correctly, to be the biggest job of the lot. I am replacing all of the complete inner and outer cables so it will be fun, keep me busy for a day or two.

Changed my mind on the chrome bits, had a hunt around for pictures on the net and decided I didn't like it that much. So the only chrome bits will be a couple of little subtle bits like, the gear selector cover and maybe a fork link cover at the front, decided to paint the other bits to match the scoot. If it ever stops raining.

Not good, rings too big & messed up my woodruff key GRR. (schoolboy error)
Need to accurately measure my bore to get correct rings, why is nothing ever easy?
Your fault lan, I would have put it together with the same rings if you hadn't mentioned changing them haha.
Only joking

Only joking if you have split the cases why not do a full rebuilt including new barrel and new piston/rings ( barrel has broken cooling fins any way ), bearings seals and new woodruff key parts are not that expensive and no need to go through the hassle of removing engine again

rings arrived and done, just waiting for the woodruff key (I ordered two)
Then the engine will be ready. I am considering a Malossi 210 in the future, but just for now a standard 200 will do me fine. Its not the hardest job in the world to take the engine out again. (two bolts and a few cables.
While I am talking about cables, my weekend recabling session has been cancelled due to a wooden floor being delivered and that taking priority, (for the dining room not the scooter haha)
No rush, should be back on the road in a week or two.
Can't wait.
I don't get the same feeling traveling around in a Mondeo.

The paint job hasn't come up all that good really, the scooter was just too rough to sart with, bent dented , scratched etc. It will look ok and a heck of a lot better than it did, just not as good as I had hoped. I will get it back together next week and get back to riding, can't wait. Just means I am going to have to find a better example to build as a proper project. As they always say , you get what you pay for and you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear Gaz

The pot thickens, a PX came up locally with a Malossi 172 T5 engine in it, and a disc front, so I couldn't resist buying it. Now I am going to swap all the good bits to my T5 and rebuild the 'orrible cut down PX and sell it on with the 200 engine in it. My small revamp is taking an age now. Heres a pic of how they are right now.

Just read my first post in this thread, on May 19th I said I took my T5 off the road for a quick renovation. Well its still off the road. A lot of progress has been made though, the project had kind of grown. >Black (ish) respray >T5 Engine with Malossi 172 Kit (was P200 before) >Disc front Just waiting for a Mk1 T5 headset (square light) to fit then I will finally be back on the road, can't wait. Nor can my wife, constant earache about the garden looking like Steptoes Yard. I hope it will all be worth it, considering I was originally only going to give ait a quick spruce up.

looking good now, just got to sort out all the wiring , (big job) then I am done, what started as a minor revamp ended a major job, but well worth it. I am aiming to get everything working by at very least the end of August, for the Mersea Rally I have a lot of missing wiring and want everything to work, fuel guage, rev counter, dash light the lot, at present I have no wiring for any of them. Should be fun.

Back on the road, and not before time . The grin is back, just a little tinkering still to do, like no lights and a dodgy front brake.
