Hi all, I thought I would start a thread for progress of my T5, which I took off the road today for a quick renovation. - Replace cruciform / gears as necessary
- Paint job
- Chrome a few bits
- Paint other bits
- Add new bits
I hope to do all this in a month, I will add updates as I do anything. Sorry if this is boring, but for me it is very exiting, my scruffy old baby is getting a revamp. Todays progress: - Engine removed
- Rack, flywheel cover & carb cover sent for chroming
- 3 wheels removed and sent for bead blasting before painting
The only problem I had was that the HT lead pulled out of the coil, so looks like I will have to get hold of a new one. This is no super fantastic custom job, it is being done on a budget, but the poor old T5 was desperately in need of a revamp, as you can see in the picture below. Wish me luck Here is a before picture

Update: Spent most of the day today stripping the T5 down, all done except I can't decide whether to remove the headset completely and then have the nightmare of re-cabling and re-wiring. As you can see, pretty well ready got the paint shop

Yes wiring loom is deffo T5, has all the extras, I thought it was only the headset top that was wrong, that was obvious though. Find out tomorrow.
Cheers

I could be wrong, but the front mudguard doesn't look the same as my Mk1 T5 one either - mine doesn't have the fin thingy on like yours...? Didn't you buy a new one anyway though?

The mudguard has been cut down and is horrible, it currently has pride of place in my wheely bin. When it goes back together it will have a new one, a fibreglass one. You can buy the fin on the top, chrome ones look quite nice actually. But I am going commando with my mudguard.

I like the chrome fins, but I'm finless and a bit dented (my mudguard, that is ;D). Is the fibreglass one lighter in weight?

I got a chrome fin fitted when the mudguard was being repaired (bent back into shape and resprayed) ... think it was about 8 quid. Worth every spondulick.

No mate, been too busy, going to do it at the weekend, will hopefully be splitting replacing the cruciform and rebuilding, as there won't be anything else wrong (fingers crossed).

Bad news & good news: Bad news: Its NOT a T5 engine its a PX Good news: Its a 200 PX engine . Slightly happier now. Didn't know, I just thought it was fairly quick because it was the T5. Now will carry on with the strip down to find out the gearbox problem. Thanks for the scare :-) Gaz

I took the head off and thought, that piston looks a bit on the large side, so I measured it.
All the parts I bought are for a T5 engine, cruciform and gasket set, will they be the same? I doubt the gasket set will.
Casings are now split and everything looks fine at a glance. Will have a closer look tomorrow when I take the shafts etc out.
