Good "first" mod?
I'm not looking for top end revs/speed, just a bit more torque

Just block it off 👍

Block it off as in seal it up (or just leave it secured as in the attached picture?)

Gotcha (I think....) What's the impact on performance if left "uncorked"?

Hurray getting rid of that blood cat. Just pull all the Old tubes off. You don't use them any more without your catalystic converter. Then look up. 'Vespa p200 air filters or 'drilling out heart shape 125 px air filter' and that should explain what I mean better than I can. Enjoy it !! Will the sip r2 alone your scoot will be alot more fun. Let me know how you got on. Oh yeah there is no performance difference if you cork or not as that bit left is not connected to anything else. I think its a posh breather for the secondary air system.

Looking at some of the threads re the drilling out of the filter, it mentions changing the carb jets too?? Also, can't believe there are no videos on how to do this (well, I haven't found anything on YouTube yet)

What year is your scoot? I'm asking because I've got a 2012 125 and I completely replaced the cat exhaust with a scootopia big bore which I think has similarities to the SR2 and it made a big difference. What should be born in mind is how lean the standard carb settings were in the lower rev range to get through the euro emissions. Don't treat it as gospel but I also fitted a slightly richer pilot jet and a richer throttle slide, sorry can't remember which ones. I think the sllde might have been a number 8. With this adjustment I only had to up the main jet from 96 to 98 and it runs as sweet as a nut. Hope this is of some help.

You will need a 98 or 100 main jet maybe a 102 if you do the filter mod. Look for freak moped guy on you tube. He knows his stuff. That's one of his videos angie just put up.

Freak moped has some very useful info about carb jetting. He says you need to get your jetting right at low and mid revs and then sort your WOT main jet. One of the things that can happen is you get your main jet a bit bigger than it needs to be because your idle jet, throttle slide and air corrector are too lean. What can happen then is you come off full throttle after a fast run and your fuelling is too lean. This can result in the engine nipping up which if you're lucky will only be a soft seize. Kev.

phattanglo scooterbooter Thanks a million for all that carb info. Sounds like too much hassle for the filter mod. Just been out for a scoot with the Mrs on pillion for the first time and it managed just fine as it was. I've always got the ZX10R if I want real power

Honestly if you decide to go ahead it's very straight forward. If you just replace the jets you don't need to remove the carb just take the top off which is under the filter. If you decide to replace the throttle slide you would remove the carb just to make access easier but even if you've not done it before start to finish would be less than an hour.

Absolutely you got got a speed machine there! Leaves you free to enjoy your scoot for what it is, a bit of fun on a nice day or blasting a way through the city traffic on the way to work. You can open it up and keep your licence. I love it. Hope you do too linners.

It really is a lot of fun to be had up to 50-55mph Would be good to remove the strangle points so it can get there quicker tho.... So, can someone spell it out definitively to this thicko which size of which jets I need to change? So far, I've got 98 to 102 main jet but anything else? And what about the throttle slide? Thanks for the continuing advice

If it just the exhaust I would see if you get away with just changing the main jet. Start with 102. If it works well it's probably right if it splutters go down a jet sze .just check your plug is brown after 20 odd miles. The rest is fine tuning and probably unneeded as the sip r2 is pretty much plug n play.

If you take your spark plug out you can tell if you are lean or rich. Black electrode rich Brown electrode optimal White electrode lean. You need to give it a good 20+ miles for a plug colour to develop. That's rough guide. You can go into alot more but for just one change like an exhaust a simple plug check gives an idea where your scooter is at. Again check out other threads or even a bit o YouTube. There's more detail on this.
