I just got my first Vespa this weekend. A 2013 LX50 Touring 2-stroke with only 200 miles. Really looking forward to getting out for a ride when the rain stops!
I have read the threads about improving performance and for this model I see three improvements that are relatively straight forward:
- remove variator restrictor
- new exhaust
- new carb jet
I am not so mechanically inclined and will start by removing the washer on the variator. One thing I am not clear over and seem to have interpreted things differently in the forums - is it ok to start just with this mod? Or is it advisable then to already try and squeeze the extra hp out of the motor with an exhaust mod / jet change.
Thanks in advance! Cheers.

You will see a small gain, removing restriction, and more when you do the other modifications, don't know much about your scooter, so let us all know how you get on

Thanks for the reply. I actually plan to start with a full service interval a even though the miles are low as it has been standing idle in a garage for so long. Then I will remove the variator restriction washer. And see how that is.
I read in the instruction manual the bike should not be driven beyond 80% throttle for the first 1,000km? I suppose I should also follow this advice even though the bike is 8-years old.

Yes I would follow that advice, because it will be the running in period 👍
