If the weather permits (wish I had a bloody garage) this weekend I'm gonna give the PX a good going over, clean it from top to bottom and apply rust prevention stuff and that. Am curious to know how everyone else on here looks after their's and what products they use? Going to apply some autosol metal polish on the chrome and stainless steel areas, and coat it with WD40 ... the front rack has a fair bit of rust in the crevices so hopefully the autosol will do the trick there. Heard vaseline is useful for exposed joints and springs and stuff too. Will then just wash it with some Autoglym bodywork shampoo, dry it with a chamois leather .... then apply some Autoglym super resin polish with a cloth 'n rub it off with another one. Could well be talking out my arse here so corrections of how best to look after the old girl are more than welcome

I'm a big fan of Mer, which is what they use in the trade for polishing. It's quite expensive, but a little bit goes a LONG way. I bought a bottle for £8 in 2002 and I'm still using the same one.

It's a subjective thing, but having used Autoglym for ever, I recently converted to Meguiars products.. Bought MrsBrynO a new 4x4 in a very practical black , determined to keep it showroom fresh and have been using Scratch X for removing swirl marks and light scratches, NXT generation tech wax which is awesome, leaves no white powder like Autoglym and NXT spray wax for a quick go over after every wash.. of course my T5 has been treated to the same In fact it's become quiet obsessive, I've bought microfibre cloths, a waterblade, proper leathers blah, blah ;D

Thanks to Spence, who recommended it to me on the forum some time back, I now swear by Mer. Autosol and a soft toothbrush for those corroded areas on the chrome is fab, then buffed and a thin layer of vaseline on the corroded joined areas of crashbars etc to repell water. main body work, mer after a simple washdown. need to do this as i ride everyday and live by the sea, so air is quite salty which ain't too good for metalwork. Don't have a garage either, so invest in a good cover for nights.

In the end, what works for you is what counts. ( old socks good for polishing!)

harking back to the past lets not forget that a tired rusty exhaust benfits from wire discing and then a few good coats of Plastikote barbecue paint , well better than that sh*te high temp exhaust paint

Thanks all, plenty of food for thought there. As it happened, the weather did permit but my stinking hangover didn't Will give me time to get my hands on some Mer that the 3 (ok 2, but that doesn't work!) wise men have suggested.

My T5 is so ratty I wouldn't waste a good sponge on it, I just hose it down to clean it, lube in the right areas, WD40 on the chrome bits and thats about it. I also don't have a garage so mine is on the drive, chained to an anchor, with a Scooter glove cover on it, which I can highly recommend, they are great.
It may be ratty but I love it to bits.

Spent 2 hours doing it yesterday .... looks the business now The autosol done a great job on the front rack as well. Didn't get hold of the Mer in time but I'll give it a go next time. Not sure if I fecked up with the exhaust though .... when I parked it up at work this morning I noticed a bit of smoke coming from it ... not actually out of the pipe ... just from the exhaust in general. I'd put a bit of WD40 on it as it was looking a bit rusty ... was that a mistake or is will it just burn off a little bit for a while? Hope I haven't done any damage! What's wire discing?

WD40 will stink and burn off, I don't think there will be any lasting damage.
