Hi all. I’m a newbie so be gentle! A bit of background....when I was about 13 we had an old beat up Vespa for tearing around the farm. After coming of it in the rain, slicing my leg open on the rusty foot boards and getting 22 stitches the old dutch banished it to the scrapheap. 35 years later I’m looking to relive my youth (without the stitches) and quite fancy a VBB. From what I have read there seems to be a lot of Asian “restorations” around to be avoided but I don’t know how to tell. Can anyone advise on either of these two please? Thanks for your time

Welcome to the forum 👋👋 you here a lot of horror stories about some of these restorations, so I guess you pay your money and take a chance. A friend bought a vbb from Vietnam one night while drinking 🥴 but he was lucky and got a good one.

Welcome.
I would treat a vbb like an old plastered wall. You need to go over the whole frame making sure it isn't just been filled with coke cans and filler.
A vespa bajaj vbb is made of better quality steel and are cheaper to get hold of.
Good luck with your search!

Looks ok, but looks can be deceiving, can you take someone who knows about scooters with you to give it a good looking at? Maybe contact a local scooter club and see if a member could .

Unfortunately it’s too far for me to go and see and were under stiffer travel restrictions in Scotland now. Just need to decide if its worth the gamble🤔

Looks to me like there is a lot of rust on the underside that has just been sprayed over!

He’s asking £1500 but I’m hoping there’s room for negotiation. No MOT but it runs. Got a friend of a friend going to see it tonight hopefully, I’ll keep you posted. Re. The rust, I thought the same but then I am looking for a project.

Keep us posted, and the rust isn't a problem as long as it's only surface, I found out the hard way and the rust just kept on going 😔

Tinworm is a nightmare, but repair panels are available. If you can’t weld, learn, or pay a small fortune for someone else to do it.

I’m no expert with a mig but I get by. Flapper discs on the angle grinder always help😉

Dont touch it. If your having to think ' is this dodgy?' Then it probably is. In fact then it definitely is. Trust your spider senses Peter that's what they are there for. Theres good ones out there dont risk it

It’s all gone quiet on this one, guess I was asking too many questions. Any one know of any legit 1960’s VBB scooters in need of some restoration?
