Hi,
Is it of concern to have the hub of the flywheel noticeably more rusty? I also notice that the 5 screws fastening this on are well rusted up. My Engine side cowling panel doesn't quite close up really tight, I can still see a gap. What Can I do to tighten this?
I'm about to embark on my 1st major maintenance on my 2014 PX125E, which I've had for a year. I'm changing the standard exhaust for a SIP Road 2 (Going to try 98 and 99 main jet alongside) and also changing out the Air Bellows as the original is well cracked and perishing. I though I'd change the Flywheel cover also.
I'm hoping that once I tighten up the side panel, the rust problem will go away.

Welcome to the forum 👋👋 rusty flywheel cover, isn't a problem, and you may have to use brute force to get the screws out, I always use stainless ones, and it's a poor fit, so you may need to bend reshape a little, I had a look at mine and I don't have a gap

Hi and welcome. Sounds like to me that you quite haven't got the knack of putting the side panel on. Is that right? With the flywheel cover, Adrian is right, it might need a little manipulation. With the side panel itself, I find it difficult to describe... Treat it like a big hinge, pin near the indicator in first, point the opposite to the gods, bring that end down. Rest the spring on the top of the panel fixing point (this was where sometimes mine needed a careful "t**tting"), make sure the spring is on the panel fixing point above the battery. Lower end down, put the pin in the locating hole, push in the panel with one hand, while the other turns the lever under the seat. If anyone can make sense of that, then I've had a bloody good day.... 🤠😎

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I've tried and the pan head screws that fix the Flywheel cover on have seized up. I cannot get them off. One is about to go completely chewed up so I stopped before I did any more damage. I've immersed the joint in WD-40 and rapped the screw head with a hammer (gently) to shake off the surface rust but not budging. Any advice?

Use a dremel or similar and cut a flat head screw head into it, when try to undo, that fails try knocking it undone, if not you may have to drill it out

If you don't have an dremel, use mole grips to get it started.
