Can anyone please confirm if the LML 5 port cylinder and head is compatible with a PX engine and if so does it have any advantage over a standard top end.

I'm sure it is, and it is an advantage over the original which is a 3 port.

Yes definitely fits but you will not get the full benefit of the larger transfers in the barrel due to the smaller ports on the PX cases.

I'm happy to match the cases to the barrel if that's all it needs. Would the si20/20 still be ok if I up the main jet to suit? Is there any benefit in lengthening the inlet or cutting the crank to improve the breathing or leave well alone.

An upjetted 20/20 will be fine, I've run a few LMLs with the 150 top end and they've all been great. The best one I've had came out if Eddy Bullets ready done and it was fantastic.
I've never bothered modifying the crank or timings, probably best going for a proper kit if that's the case, unless your tinkering for fun

To be honest I fancied the VMC 177 super G cylinder kit after the glowing reports I'd seen but even though it's a good price it's more than I can justify when you can get the LML for quite a bit less. Does the LML require the crank case to be matched to the barrel bottom gasket?

The look good and would like to try but the BGM177 takes some beating.
Some do some don't, some of the later LML cases has PX size ports but most are significantly bigger

If you can squeeze that bit more the newer generation of kits is far superior I think they are worth it if your are all about the ride. But I get it . I'm still in the dog house for the last splurge I had. Family first. Vespa close second. I think I'd wait and save it sounds like you want the power. You may only end up spending time and money trying to tune an inferior kit £250 gets you bgm or parmakit Smurf. You must be talking around £100 what your thinking. A dr ain't much more I rate them there great. Oh you got stuck in the kit hole. Good luck.

You are not comparing apples with apples here.
I would start doing some research on Dyno charts.
A px 150 is about 8 hp, an LML 5 port 10 hp and a BGM/VMC 18 hp.
I would hate for you to spend your money and be underwhelmed
Cheers

I think what appealed to me about the VMC was the info from mistafreakmoped on youtube etc. It seems that apart from smoothing a few rough casting bits and rounding off the port edges it's pretty much plug and play. I already have a richer pilot jet and air corrector jet so I just need to get a starting point for the main jet so I can plug chop. Am I correct in thinking the standard 68t primary gear is not compatible with a clutch with more teeth as I assume I would have to upgear a bit to use the additional power. Advice would be appreciated. Kev.

You can use a 22 or 23 tooth with a 68 tooth primary,

The BGM isn't 18bhp out of the box, PNP, probably 15ish.
22 tooth is standard fitment on the 68 primary, 23 you'll need a BGM or DRT cog, they're more expensive, but with the right set up, worth it.

So if I got a DRT 23t would that be up geared appropriately? I am officially a fat knacker so I don't want to negate the benefit of the cylinder kit by up gearing too much

The only way to tell is to run it and see, then if it is over geared sell it to me 😁 and get a 22. Let me know

Is the standard clutch basket on a PX 125 22 teeth or is that for the PX 150? Mine is a 2012 model if that makes any difference.

Don't know about the 125, but a 150 has a 22 tooth

Hopefully this is relevant to this thread. I have a 2013 125px , unrestricted, sip 2 exhaust( exactly as i bought it last autumn). Runs very well / reliable/ nice tickover . However its probs the slowest px i have ever had and i have had a lot of them. 50mph is its max , thats on the vespa speedo so we can knock a bit off that . Its so nice a scooter that i don’t want to molest it as such . If i could turn that 50mph into 55 mph it would make a world of difference on the roads i use ( safety wise) and a bonus if its not screaming its nads off to do it. I do have a bog standard italian 150px cylinder set up in my garage on the shelf amongst some poor quality indian 150 5 port kits knocking about . Any suggestions welcome. Not interested in going the whole hog with uprated clutch/ carb size and 177 and the like. This scooter has done 3000 km from new so just want it a bit more user friendly. Sorry for long post 🥴.

Stick the 150 top end on and hopefully you will see an improvement 🤞 might need to upjet the carb as well
