Called my insurance broker this morning to declare my new 'non standard' exhaust. Got all the usual questions, make & model, cost, who fitted it blah, blah.. the question 'is it a performance modification?' was a tricky one, so I said I had never heard of anyone selling an aftermarket exh which claimed to have absolutely no effect on performance, but IMO the performance benefit on my 11HP Vespa would be about as effective as me skipping breakfast that morning ;D Anyway, they came back and had no objections to the mod, no increase in cost of cover, however - the exh must be legal and carry a kite mark/BS mark.. Hmmm, now I wonder how many scooters there are out there with bits and pieces bought from random after market suppliers from all over the world which do not carry a kite mark? something tells me that imports from Vietnam probably don't conform to British Standards - so does that invalidate your insurance? What about imported scooters restored in India/far East, where do they stand when it comes to getting cover for use on UK roads, how are they exempt from BS rules? Food for thought

95% of scooter riders in this country think there covered till they have an accident, kits, exhausts, crashbars, spots,if your unlucky enough to haveone, crawl up & take em all off ,or they'll get out of paying up
