Had a butchers on iTunes the other day to see if there are any scootering podcasts. Podcast I hear a couple of you mutter in a confused fashion, come on ya luddite you can't be that bad if you're on here in the first place. Basically radio over the internet to consume as and when you want. I get all sorts of quality stuff. Podcasts for music, films, comedy, football, current affairs, fishing. Whatever you want there's somet.
There are a 2 scootering ones that are put out regularly, both American based. I downloaded a fair few of each one to give them a go. Here's a mini review of each, hopefully of use to someone, if not it killed a bit of me lunch hour at least!
sctrcst.com/ - Sctrcast is a bit bobbins really. The bloke who does it is nice enough but the episodes are very unstructured and he basically just waffles about nothing while every now and again skimming something to do with scootering of use and interest (Jesus, I could be reviewing this review). He also breaks the show up with a couple of horrific songs off the Podsafe network which are free (for very good reason) to play on podcasts as long as you give the artist a plug. The show is very region specific as well, talks far to much about what is happening in his neck of the woods which isn't much use to a global audience. On the plus side there was a good show with an interview with that German fellow who made the Scooterists - A Way Of Life DVD and he does seem to have a good interest in classic scoots so you get the odd good snippet about them. But on the whole, avoid.
www.justgottascoot.com/ - JustGottaScoot is much better, feels a lot more professional and the shows have more purpose. There isn't too much regarding the scene around scootering (music, clothes etc) but I get the impression that side of it isn't as big over there as it is here anyway. But I've found a lot of the info useful and picked up some good tips, he has some very knowledgeable guests on regularly which helps. 3 episodes that I really liked were the ones on Vespa history, Lambretta history and scooter safety. One downpoints is that, much like the other podcast, it's quite American centric (in terms of rallies, shop info, etc) but at least it's more interesting stuff that could apply elsewhere, the other fellow gives local weather reports! Also there is a lot on modern automatic bikes which isn't really my thing. Overall though there is certainly enough to warrant a listen.
Would love to hear a good quality UK based podcast focusing on the scooter scene, nowt doing at the moment though so justgootascoot will suffice for now.
