Ok, firstly I admit I know nothing about any Vespa made in the last 20 years ;D.. I may take a job which requires a 70 mile round trip each day, don't want to use my car (which only comes out on sunny days ) and my T5 is not really built for distance.. I work in the centre of London at the mo and keep seeing loads of the new style Vespas, particularly like the look of the X8. I know they come with some pretty big motors, but how do they perform compared with say a bike of the same CC, 250, 400 whatever? being autos I imagine they are pretty quick off the mark?

Just found this and I'm probably too late now to comment. Either you've bought an X8 by now or forgotten all about it.
I've got a 125 X8 sitting here, less than 2 years old, 17,000 miles, not even paid out yet and I've given up on it and bought a PX in despair.
And it's the second X8 - I rejected the 1st one after 3 weeks when it constantly lost power at 45mph and dealer and Piaggio together couldn't find a cure. Demanded a new one and got it, and I know the original is still faulty nearly 2 years later. They sold it cheap to some poor sod who never goes over 30 anyway!
The second one has been a nightmare. New steering bearings after 3 months, transmission with major faults after 6 months, most of it replaced, then various other problems before, finally, the alternator packed up.
Replaced that at my own expense, being no longer willing to take the bloody thing near a Piaggio dealer, and found I still needed to spend money on other electrical components that were dud.
Apart from that the X8 is lovely, comfortable, very quick, and turns heads.
It's just too heavy to keep pushing home.

Actually I'm still thinking on it, start a new job I need to commute to in a couple of months, so need something to do the distance, dont want to use a car. Looked at the GT250, but still keep coming back to the X8 250.. Sounds like your experience has not been great, just found out one of my wifes friends husbands works for Piaggio training technitions so going to have a chat with him, get an inside view on their reliability.. Also keep seeing a Suzuki something in London which looks even nicer than the X8..

The Bergman DOES look nice. There's one been running about up my way for a long time, which probably means it's getting big miles, but I've never had a chance to get a close look at it - think it's a 250.
I'd be very interested to hear what your technician guy says about the X8.
The way I think about it, one bad X8 is unlucky but forgiveable, but two bad X8s in a row is....... I won't say it 'cos the moderator will have a fit!
