Hi All,
New to board and pretty new to scootering in general. Have always loved scooters and all things Mod and I finally got myself a 2006 Vepsa PX 125 in June.
I love the thing but am sick of crying my little eyes out every time I get past 30 MPH! ... I have a Vespa soft top open helmet and as soon as I get up to a decent speed my eyes start watering and there isn't to much I can do about it.
I'm trying to find a good retro style open helmet with a visor but I'm struggling. I'm in the Manchester area but all the motorcycle/scooter shops round here just seem to sell sports style motorbike helmets, nowt up my street.
Can anyone reccommend some decent dealers? I'm willing to travel if need be. Preferably I'm looking to try a few places in the North but if I have to I will go down to London or whatever.
Don't fancy buying one online or through mail order as I want to make sure it fits properly and is exactly what I want.
Some of the Momo and Modena ones I have seen online look nae bad, but its hard to get a feel for them on a screen.
Thanks in advance. Gardez la foi!
/Dan

Have you got a budget in mind? My modena's great and not expensive either. Mine was bought online though, and I don't know of any shops that stock them! There's Davida too - but I'll have to ask the chief about where they are, they've moved recently to Birkenhead. I'm thinking about getting one myself. Welcome to the forum by the way

Devo the best thing you can do is go to a shop and try a few on to make sure you know exactly what size you are. Helmet sizes very rarely differ from make to make, for instance I've got a Nitro full face, a Caberg semi face (open but with full visor) and a Cromwell Hurricane. They're all Mediums, or size 58, and they all fit me the same.
Once you've found a helmet you like, I recommend going to designerhelmets.com via the link on our homepage. that's where I got my Cromwell from and it's a lovely retro style helmet with a half visor which sounds like the kind of thing you're looking for.
Failing that, perhaps some sort of spectacles would be in order.

Hi Lucia/Spence,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Lots of useful information, ta.
Am looking to pay up to about 250 notes.
Its useful to know that the sizes are all pretty standard. I visited a local motorbike dealer today to check what size I should be. The Vespa helmet I have now is medium but feels a bit loose but I think its just not the greatest helmet in the world as when I tried some half decent ones on that are also medium they seemed to fit a lot better.
So now I'm torn between the Cromwell Hurricane and the Modena pale blue with visor. Both very nice. Am gonna make up my mind and take a risk and get one on the net.
Thanks again!
Cheers,
Dan

You're very welcome mate. Don't forget, if you're going to buy online I can recommend designerhelmets.com. That's where I got my Hurricane from, and the service was excellent. If you go to our homepage at www.vespa.org.uk there's a direct link on the right hand side. If you don't mind spending as much as £250, the Cromwell Spitfire's within your budget too. Not quite as retro as the Hurricane, but I understand they're extremely light (and the name's a little bit cooler as well.)
