Could anyone advise please if it is realistic to drill out the spot welds on a std disc front mudguard to split it and then re-weld after rust removal. My mudguard has the usual rust down the front seam and I used a fibreglass replacement, but despite much jiggery pokery it just doesn't fit as neatly as I'd like and I wondered if I should revert back to original.

I have never heard of anyone doing what you are suggesting, A lot of people change to a T5 mudguard to eliminate the seam altogether, mudguards are not expensive to buy a new one but the cheap ones may not fit that well, possibly worth trying to source a decent second hand genuine one, unless you like a challenge.

I put a T5 on mine, looks nice. Good second hand ones about. I don't mind welding but I would probably blow holes in that : )
