So I more or less finished my scoot's rebuild and started her up. I didn't touch the engine which was absolutely fine prior to the rebuild and yet petrol is now pouring out of the carb. It doesn't appear to be coming from the fuel pipe yet it drains if I unscrew the pilot screw. I stripped the carb and everything looks ok, the float needle and jet look clean as a whistle.

You can check the seal of the float needle by holding the carb upside down and blowing in the petrol inlet pipe, if the seal is good you should not be able to blow past it, also worth checking float is not holed and filling with petrol, both cheap to replace anyway, and float needle probably a good starting point anyway. Cheers Ian, I tried blowing and it did actually seal but I think it could still be the problem as I connected the fuel line up again and it immediately started pouring from the float bowl overflow. The float seems ok no cracks and no fuel inside it

My PX200 was fine one minute then leaking, I put a new valve in the carb from Kegra. 20 miles later the same problem and then my engine filled up with petrol with the tap off. Transpired the top of the carb was worn so I replaced the top half and a new correct fuel tap. I pulled to old tap apart and the washer inside was worn out. Not very safe having a garage floor full of petrol. Hope this helps.

I've ordered a carb rebuild kit so hopefully that will do the trick. On reflection it was probably on the cards anyway, I often had a problem with flooding if I forgot to turn off the fuel overnight.
