Last week I found out that my application for a voluntary redundancy scheme that had come up has been unsuccessful. It took the goits a year of messing me about to decide this though. My plan was to do Europe on the Vespa and as I've been thinking about that for a year I'm gonna do it anyway. It will be a fair bit tougher without 18 months pay in my sky rocket though Am resigning (probably not my smartest move as I have a decent job, but feck it eh!) in June and plan to be off by the start of July. My rough plan is to go as far North in Scotland as I feasibly can and then as far South as I feasibly can in Italy, via France's West coast (and my mate's place half way down). Then on the way back I might come up the East of France to try and nip into a few other countries. This is all in it's infancy though and I'm only just sorting out the details and routes now. Reckon 3 months should give me plenty of time to take in lots of different places with the weather still being reasonable. Anyway, I'm gonna have loads of queries related to this (the first being about rear racks) over the next few months so brace yourselves Any advice will be greatly appreciated, ta.

Devo, my AFSC mate Craig rode from Aberdeen to Gibraltar and back on a PX200 in 2006. If you want I can put you in touch with him for some hints and tips. He was good enough to let us print his article and photos here on www.vespa.org.uk before they went into Scootering magazine. Here's a link: www.vespa.org.uk/craig-ballantyne.htmlI'm sure you'll be keeping a good document of your travels, would you be able to provide us with something along the same lines?

Just read the article, good stuff. Quite the adventure.
Yes, that'd be brilliant if you could put me onto him .. sure he will be full of loads of tips. I'd be happy to do a wee article for you too.
Would prefer to do it on a 200 or at least somet more powerful that my 125, but when there is a will eh ... Have always wanted to go to Sicily, I hope she gets me there!
Thanks for the good wishes folks. I'll take that North & West Highland route too, sounds great.

Devo I have a PX125 disc like you and i'm toying with the 166 Malossi kit. Have you been tempted ? A bit, especially by that particular kit. But I won't be doing anything before travelling as I'm not very good mechanically and the reliability factor of the default set-up is more important to me than the extra power at the moment. If I become more proficient on the technical side, who knows Post your experiences is on here if you go ahead Ian, would be interested to see how you get on.

hey , this has cheered me up no end reading this,., .am thinking of heading on a tour myself on my px 125 , starting on the hull to rotterdam ferry, then across the netherlands and germany to poland ,. .so much i need to know first tho,. like finding parts incase of breakdowns in these places,.how my scoot will cope with the long journey ,. like you devo im not very good mechanically and when i mention this idea to people they just laugh and look at me like i ve lost it ., which is making me want to do it even more

Good stuff Cuzzy. When there is a will there is a way eh I'll be picking out a few Piaggio approved garages along key parts of the route, could save messing about later.

In case anyone wonders why I'm still on here in a month or so, I'm having to postpone these plans For the past 3 weeks I've been renting a caravan with my sister in a wee place 5 miles from Rhyl called Rhuddlan (a surreal experience) as my Dad has been in hospital very seriously ill. He's still in but no longer in a critical condition and recovering well. He is going to need help and support for a good few months yet I think so my plans need to be shelved until next year really. Luckily I hadn't resigned from my job yet (was due to do it this week) and my landlord was fine on cancelling the notice I'd given, phew. On the plus side I'll now get to go to the Isle of Wight rally and maybe fit in a week or two tour of Scotland or somet.

Think i've said this before, but maybe us regulars on this forum who are going to the I.W. rally should all meet up somewhere? I echo Elvis sentiments Devo. It'll happen when it's meant to.

Was a good 'n. One snapped clutch cable was the only issue, not bad for the distance covered. Has strengthened my resolve to have the scoot kitted though .... that A9 is a killer
