In some respects, it seems that time has flown by and it feels like yesterday I was in my late teens to early 20's, scooting about in a pair of jeans or combats and a pilot jacket, with not much care for protective riding gear. Of course, when your young, you never think about death or injuries, unless it happens to someone you hear about and/or know! Some times though, I do feel my age (coming up to 54 π±) and find myself looking at things that would have held no intrest to the young me! Yip I'm/we are getting old .ππ. www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/981Ride safe. MijβΊ

I am literally about 10/15 minutes from there, it's a fairly big place... they have their own burgervan! But have to agree with you there, and I'm only 33! My knees and arms are about buggered because I genuinely was delivering bags of coal from the age of 8/9 until about 13... (drivers mate then...) π³

coming up 52 this year . even as a kid ,street skating 2 pairs of jeans ,para boots an a leather ,but no gloves ,duh . then onto bikes/scoots same rig but with gloves ,helped having a older brother with half a arse cheek from a long slide unprotected . then as a dispatch jockey getting the full rig on in morning was my routine "getting head in game" ritual . still to this day got full waterproof armoured gear an kevlar chainsaw boots hanging by the door , but generally ride around town in a levi jean jacket an holey jeans (i'm a scruff) . an unlaced boots ,after a molten weld blob down laced boots incident, i like to be able to kick my boots off very quickly. if its raining ,just thin over-trousers which aint no protection but are quick to get on n off . yes ,i feel the cold more as i'm older , an at my age relying on the "i aint going to crash" safety plan is daft ,specially as it hasnt always worked in the past .but theres no way i'm dressing up as a "power ranger" to nip to the shops or pub , couldnt take the comments from mates asking "does grandad need a stool to sit on near the fire" . Thats why i wear a black leather jacket when riding my scooters. It has a back protector and elbow / shoulder pads built in. I remember during a bike awareness course at college, the policeman said leather was the best protection against tarmac surfing. The only problem is, is that it has a "Lambretta" patch on the back. I feel conflicted when i wear it whilst riding my Vespa.

I remember being at a Welsh Rally (may have been Llandudno? ) In the early 1990's and my mate and I where wearing Frank Thomas riding jackets and trousers that had armour of the era fitted,Kevlar patches!, being good Scotsmen, we got them very, very cheap from a local small bike shop π±π. Whilst at the rally, the amount of sh*t we got for wearing them was unbelievable π©ππ±. Think it took the critics over the edge, when we were about to start off home and we both started putting kidney belts on π±ππππ.
Been wearing protective riding gear since then, but since the start of the 2000,'s even wear it on short journeys as allegedly your more likely to have an accident in a 6 miles radius of your home!.
Ooh, when the small bike shop closed about 2005 ish, managed to buy the very same type and make of jacket, that was old stock, for Β£15 still wear it occasionally π±π.
